Spee
Need to get from the airport to the bus terminal for buses going to Phetchabun. What is the easiest way to get from the airport to the terminal? Train? Taxi? Bus? Can anyone out there confirm the correct terminal (I've read there are several, NE, SE, etc.)? Thanks in advance for any replies ... Tongdee
Fastest way ./..little luggage(unless you are athletic) Motorcycle taxi...Take a walk on the wild side.....More luggage, less athletic: pay the smiling cabbie. I usually stop at a guesthouse/ hotel somewhere after arrival for some zzzzzzeee's, a shower of power first. motorcycle taxi dudes know lots, get you there(usually) quicker than anyone else & give a sense of livin on the edge. If yer not livin on the edge your takin up to much space. Enjoy Tongdee Na Oilberta
KevinN
SPEE; Just get a taxi, tell em Northern Bus Terminal, that you want a VIP to Phetchabun, it is actually just across the road and down a little ways, go in the front where you are let out of the taxi, bear to your right and down close to the end of the ticket windows is the window for Phetchabun tickets on the VIP,one leaves about every hour, the last one at 2330 I think. 5 hrs later you are here. Thanks Kevin & Tongdee, You confirmed what I though, especially the VIP bus. I just couldn't remember which terminal. I'm on a short trip with a tight schedule, and didn't want to risk having any long delays, so your insight will help. My flight comes in late so I'll be crashing at one of the airport hotels and then starting out fresh the following morning. I'll be travelling light (backpack & a few gifts), but this is my first trip to LOS and I want to make sure I get where I need to go, because someone is going to meet me in Phetchabun. Your 5 hour estimate is consistent with what I read, though I think I'll allow for 6. Just another double-check, but with the taxi's, is price negotiated or meter? I seem to recall negotiate, but am not positive. Looking forward to the trip ... - first time ever to LOS - will be meeting my GF/fiance's family for a couple of days - then will have an overnighter in BKK on the way back - looking forward to a stroll through some of the main areas of BKK, as well as getting to see a lot of the countryside If I come across an internet cafe', maybe I'll send a post and try to meet up with some folks from the forum, for a couple of cold & frosties in BKK. Thanks again ....

stumonster
, it is actually just across the road and down a little ways, but a bit far to walk. jump in a taxi and ask for mor chit (more shit) bus terminal the taxi should take you take you straight down vivahaldi(sic) road do a uturn just past the lad prao turn off and then a little roundabout ride to the bus station. should cost you about 80 baht. when you get out of the taxi, go in on the ground floor and turn right, head down to opposite where the elevators are and the signs on the cubicles will have plechabun(VIP) in english. if you get to the food area you have gone too far. weary
Pronounce "more shit" WITHOUT the R in more, as if you were British. There are no final R sounds in Thai.,
lopburi3
Taxi service is metered and you want to make sure they start it as there are always a few that will try to fool the tourist. Charge will be 50 baht for security/airport fee plus meter charge if you use to get to hotel. Meter starts at 35 baht for first 2km but traffic jam could result in a little higher charge at times. Very cheap. Normally it is best to hail moving taxi or risk having to bargain for those parked at tourist spots. Don't bother. There are more taxi than customers so it will never be hard to find someone to take you on the meter. Drivers don't make much money so many of us will round up fare if service is good. Have a good trip.

chanchao
Have you considered flying by the way? There's only one flight per day to Phetchabun, but there are 3 to Phitsanulok which is fairly close. Perhaps a one hour busride to Petchabun. (Also depends where in Phetchabun you're going of course.. Lom Sak / Lom Kao is quite a bit away from Wichianburi for example... Cheers, Chanchao
Spee
Have you considered flying by the way? Thanks for the advice Chanchao, Flying was an option, but for various reasons my only real choice for travel was something to get directly to Phetchabun. On their website, PB Air advertises flights from BKK to Phetchabun on Wednesday and Sunday mornings. So I had originally set my schedule up to catch a Sunday morning flight. Unfortunately, when I called PB to buy a ticket, they told me that they had just changed their flight schedules and the BKK-PHY flight was now on Saturday and Wednesday. This left me high and dry, flight schedule-wise. On the advice of others and from what I've read, the VIP bus looks like a good option. It's not overly long, I can see some of the country, have a drink and food if I want it, and get some sleep if I want it.
