What if they were backpackers and haven't been in Italy for 3 months?

and also the region of italy they come from affects the potential risk substantially, but it seems the 'reporter' did much fact finding before submitting an article omitting pertinent details.

What you are missing??? Ops, that´s painfully obvious. They do a test, to check if they already show as positively infected. They have to self-isolate in hotel because they can still shoe as positively infected for a future period of 14 days. If you don´t understand that, I can´t help you.

I can help you. Symptoms usually show between 3 and 8 days. 14 days is the quarantine period. Rarely, very rarely, like 0.01% can incubate for more than 8 days. Let's keep to reality and not theory.

They have now done that and been tested and do not have the virus, but they've been out and about for eight days in all sorts of places,  so a mandatory quarantine.

Yes I have! They test you to se you are already infected. After that you have to self-isolate for another 14 days and test again. If negative you are out.

I think even you can understand that, right? On the other hand, you already answer that you do not read much before. Maybe you´ve just lost the capability.

You dont test at the end of quarantine, you made that up. Not here in China you dont anyway and that's where all the guidelines are based on. You test at the end of incarceration, twice from separate labs and have a CAT scan for your lungs.

Talk about xenophobia...the only reason the panic was caused is because every Thai has been told to fear the 'dirty Italians'.

This is probably the saddest time in the history of this country.

I am beginning to fear whether it's safe to walk down the street as a 'big nose'. I certainly won't go anywhere near a hospital at the moment...could cause an international incident otherwise.

Italian? From the names it just doesn't seem ...

Josef...could be. There are German speaking Italians from South Tirol. The other name sounds Slavic.

Irrespective...Thais won't know that. They see an Italian passport and take it at face value.

So if they do not have the virus why quarantine?    If you are tested, and do not have the virus then case closed!  This makes no sense except maybe they are being coerced into this 14 day penalty box.

You don´t read much news, do ya? The test is to make sure they are not already infected. Then they would have been taking to hospital. That they do not show anything as of today, means that they are allowed to self-isolate for 14 days. That due to the virus can take that long time, or even more, to show up on tests after a person have contracted the virus.

That is stupid.  That means the test does not work.  So what is the purpose of testing?  If they run around and test 1 million people, so what?  If test is positive.. quarantine.  If test is negative ... quarantine.  Ludicrous

Why is it stupid. Have you ever heard of the phrase incubation period? The test is simply made to know if they already are showing as positive, so they can be treated quicker if severe symptoms should occur. Nothing ludicrous with that, and some thing that all countries are aware of. The virus can still show after another 14 days, or actually more in rare cases, and that´s why people from listed dangerous countries have to self isolate. It´s a good safety precaution, that are helping the country to fight the virus. Long time people have been aware of the virus. Today it´s silly to travel from and to any country, and if do anyway have to be prepared to new rules.

Yes...unfortunately THAI MEDICAL staff are often not completely trained...especially in diagnoses ..... they might know now that a sprained ankle isn't a symptom of Covid 19.

.....and nether are the hundreds of colds sniffles that visitors and residents suffer from on a daily

Thailand is obsessed with the idea that the disease is spread by foreigners....this surely in time will impair their ability to deal appropriately with the illness..

But it is weird that thai coming from korea has to go into quarantine and italians arriving here just can go where they like, even walking into a hospital without wearing mouthmasks.

Anyone coming from Italy needs to be quarantined....but did they just come from Italy?

Confusion and mishandling of the current situation is expected to happen in Thailand on a regular basis because of xenophobia and further discrimination towards westerners by the so called health officials ????????‍♂️
Besides, the names do not even appear to be Italians either !
And they’re not even affected by the virus !!!

You have to realise must people are not much brighter than a chimpanzee,  and with fear and hysteria you'll get this. You can't blame them. Also how are they to know the infected from not infected. In Italy people over 60 are left to die due to insufficient respiratory machines. Thais are quite right to avoid foreigners at all costs if not tested for coronovirus.

Anyone who stays in hotels or guest houses, flies, rides buses is likely to be infected, not just those coming from hotspots

Nonsense,  I would like to ask you to refrain from assuming things which are untrue, baseless and that you’re not aware of.

On the contrary  you should be aware that the Italian healthcare is top notch in terms of technology and preparedness but also as well as hospital beds, staff and sanitary supplies, this is factual.

They’ve been testing people as this outbreak started to unfold unlike other westerner countries.

They DO NOT leave anyone left to die as you put it..It’s true that they have higher death rates because the elderly and the amount of tourists they’ve had in the recent times.

FyI Italy is not America where nothing is free, a capitalist hypocritical country which now has the most cases in the world, I find simply disgraceful to put it lightly  ????????‍♂️

This is what happens to western  countries who have been and still are diminishing the virus threat by downplaying it, this while their people are still walking around unknowingly infected hence continue to spread it because their stable genius so called president believes that it will just magically disappear ( while people are dying due to lack of testing and hospital supplies, the list goes on and on.. ) This add to the list of dumbest things he has said, he clearly got blood on his hands ☹️
