The demand for alcohol from medical facilities in Bangkok has increased five times, said Pachara Anantasilp, the Excise Department’s director general, after meeting with representatives of the Public Health Ministry and related agencies.

“Though the demand for sterilizing alcohol has increased, the supply of pure alcohol is sufficient to serve demand” he added.

Before the Covid-19 outbreak, the demand for alcohol from medical facilities in Bangkok stood at 5,000 litres per month. “Currently, demand has reached 25,000 litres per month with Pathum Thani province ordering 240,000 liters of alcohol yesterday (March 16)” he said.

The director said there were 7 liquor manufacturers and 23 alcohol producers, under his department. “Total alcohol production in Thailand is 7.39 million litres per day” he added.

“In February, products in stock amounted to 133 million litres”.
