Emerging infectious diseases expert warns “Time is running out for Thailand”

Chulalongkorn University’s Centre for Emerging Infectious Diseases chief, Dr. Thiravat Hemachudha, has warned the Thai government that time is running out for Thailand if it does not immediately close its borders to all arrivals.

A vocal advocate of the measure, Dr. Thiravat gave the following reasons for his advice, to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Thailand, in his Facebook post today.

Medicines to treat viral infections, Lopinavir/ritonavir, which were originally believed to be effective against the virus, have proven to be ineffective, according to the latest New England Journal. This leaves Chloroquine, which is used to treat malaria, and Favipiravir, which is only produced in China and Japan. Current supplies of Favipiravir, however, are only enough for 600-700 patients, who each require about 70 tablets.  What if there are tens of thousands of patients?

The current national health system has only about 100 negative pressure rooms for the treatment of infected patients. Are there enough appropriately equipped hospital rooms to accommodate all patients? If the hospitals do not have separate air-conditioning systems, there is a likelihood that the virus will rapidly spread to other rooms.

So there we have it. One patient requires about 70 tablets. In the worst-case scenario Thailand anticipates to eventually have to deal with about 400,000 virus patients, i.e. stocks of at least 28 MIL

So how will they decide who gets it? Will it be first come first serve? (as it should be)

I heard this guy talk about this new research! It looks promising!

"hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine are effective antiviral therapeutic treatments for novel coronavirus"

"A recent well controlled clinical study conducted by Didier Raoult M.D/Ph.D, et. al in France has shown that 100% of patients that received a combination of HCQ and Azithromycin tested negative and were virologically cured within 6 days of treatment".

Usually it's reserved to those who have the greatest chance of recovering.

So there we have it. One patient requires about 70 tablets. In the worst-case scenario Thailand anticipates to eventually have to deal with about 400,000 virus patients, i.e. stocks of at least 28 MILLION tablets would be needed to treat them.

But.... what did the other clown announce today? (Yes, I mean that incompetent who has the galls of labeling himself "minister of public health" and who thinks that all foreigners are shabby, dirty individuals who bring the virus to Thailand).

The clown said:

“For peace of mind, we need 50,000 tablets of Favipiravir,” he said. “There are already 80,000 tablets in stock, but we’re going to buy another 120,000 to hold in reserve. If we can get 200,000 tablets, that would be enough for all the virus patients in Thailand.”

Those 200,000 tablets would be just enough to treat about 2,860 patients, i.e. just a little over 5% of the 400,000 cases anticipated.

GET RID OF THAT CLOWN MAN QUICKLY! He evidently is completely unsuitable to hold such an important position.

Just learned that if a Thai presents to Hospital for test and the result is negative they are charged 8k-10K Baht. Can anyone else confirm. If true and have no reason not to believe sources (BKK, CM and Issan) then now I know why so few new cases (besides being not counted as virus but as a chest infection).

WHO and health authorities have known for years and years, that it was only at matter of time, until we would have a worldwide virus pandemic. But they simply not only failed to advice people to stock up on masks and hand sanitizer. They even failed to stock up on these items in hospitals and clinics.

Now WHO and health authorities are lying, by telling people that it is useless to use masks, just so they can have enough masks for themselves. Better use your common sense and do not believe everything your government tells you!

I doubt they will be available to the likes of you and me at any price. More likely to be kept aside for friends in high places when the s##t ultimately hits the fan..

You seem to be forgetting,

Its only for the important people the generals and the richest. ie about 5%.

They are not concerned about the rest of the people.

I wager it will be a private party for the real good stuff.

The various secret handshake mobs will be the ones selling it, and supplying their mates first, then charging the rest of us a fortune for whatever is left.

Just saw a bunch of Chinese tourists leaving the CM Holiday Inn. With one notable difference. They were so subdued.

This thing is unravelling fast - China's method of lock down will melt the economy - globalists unable to get numbers to tally between infection and deaths - soon everyone will realise that we are averaging the ususal approximately 500,000 deaths per anum from seasonal flu.

That's untrue. Costs vary from hospital to hospital. There was a thread on Thaivisa last week I think on the costs at different hospitals in Bangkok at least. Some as low as 3,000 baht.

Thailand's health plan for the poor will also cover the cost.
