StreetCowboy
Why are bottle holders held on by screws threaded into the frame, instead of jubilee clips (worm drive hose clips)? No interference with the material of the frame, no risk of mis-threading. Who in their right minds wouldn't use jubilee clips? Well, everyone, apparently, but why? PatOngo
Please consult the engineering department, that is a little too complex for the layman! ????
StreetCowboy
My mountain bike suffered a failure of the bottle holder mounting bolt (either stripped thread on the frame, or lost internal captive nut) that was not easily repairable. I could not find a replacement that did not require mounting bolts, other than velcro retainers which I did not trust. In the end, I got a conventional bottle holder, and instead of bolts through its holding lugs, I used jubilee clips over them, but that relied on getting the jubilee clips from a car-machanic friend. It just seems so obvious that the way to strap something onto a tube is not by drilling into the tube, but use jubilee clips. And the great thing is - then you can position your bottle holder anywhere you want on your tube! SC
