SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea's latest test of super-large multiple rocket launchers a day earlier was a success, state media said on Monday.

North Korea fired what appeared to be two short-range ballistic missiles off its east coast on Sunday, the latest in a flurry of launches that South Korea decried as "inappropriate" amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The North's official KCNA news agency said the launch was aimed at examining the strategic and technical features of the "super-large multiple rocket launchers," which has been tested multiple times since last August overseen by leader Kim Jong Un, ahead of deployment.

KCNA did not mention Kim's attendance at the latest test, led by ruling party vice chairman Ri Pyong Chol and conducted at the Academy of National Defense Science.

"The operational deployment of the weapon system of super-large multiple rocket launchers is a crucial work of very great significance in realising the party's new strategic intention for national defence," Ri was quoted as saying during the test, without elaborating.

"The test-fire was conducted successfully," KCNA added.

It marked the fourth round of tests this month since North Korea staged military drills and resumed missile launches following a three-month break.

The move indicated the progress of Pyongyang's weapons development while denuclearisation negotiations with the United States remain in limbo.

I don't think the great leader will allow anyone to be sice, 'you get sic and we shoot you', and dose anyone believes for one moment that N. Korea would allow to publish had  that they have sic or dead people from the virus?...

I can not understand why countries such as North Korea, Iran, Venezuela, Iraq would waste time and money on trying to develop nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them. As has been proven if you wish to wreck havoc on a country you only need to infect a country with a virus such as Ebola.

Ebola doesnt go "boom"

Head shaker...the world is in a serious decline and little stuffed sausage is saber rattling...DA

I'm suspecting these are for NK internal consumption only, which could indicate that all is not ok in North Korea.

Has Kim Jong Un seen in public lately? The last time seems to be in mid February.

Iran, Syria and now the virus have pushed him down the list. Just trying to move up the charts.

Another example of humans aiming to destroy our planet. I pity the younger generation who will have to live here - that is if they escape the Covid19 virus, only to perhaps fall foul of the next Chinese one.

He is launching the missiles with the Norths corona virus patients to remove them from his country....Seriously he is just looking for attention since the world is no longer focused on him bust something more serious.  Why doesnt he just Nuke his country, that would get him instant front page news....

Trump wanted to nuke hurricanes but sends this guy love letters.

Thought it was animals rather than human like AIDS from chimps in Africa or MERS from bats in Saudi Arabia. By the way, the next planet destruction would likely to be nuclear.

What is your basis for suggesting the "next" planet destruction would likely be nuclear? And which planet do you mean?

Can't be earth because if the planet had been previously destroyed we wouldn't be here!

they consider it to be a mighty powerful regime-change virus preventative.

ghaddafi gave up his innoculation program, and got an enema in the end.

Of course no cases of covid, test positive a bullet to the head, remember the movie world war z,Brad Pitt asked why the north koreans did not have it,the cia guy said ,they pulled out the whole populations teeth in 48 hours ,now that's what i call serious action, plus a plethora of pliers.

Don't worry Mr, your presence hasn't been forgotten! How's those sanctions doing!

...go away Kim..we're busy with other stuff.
