Have one of these C02 pistols. Don't use it much. Usually after about 6 months all gas gone, no doubt slight leak in the seal or is this normal over time? What sort of maintenance should I do with it. Guy I bought it off said just a little oil on the striking pin (under the hammer). Should I smear a bit of oil or grease on the CO2 cylinder seal?

Said to the wife we need a air rifle to discourage the ever increasing number of chickens digging around in the yard.   Apparently can't have!   But this pistol of yours is it what they call airsoft?   Shoots plastic balls?  Would like to know if the pistol barrel has enough velocity to hurt when it hits.  Can you fill me in?

No, an airsoft is a spring type thing and yes shoots plastic balls, not very strong. One I have is CO2 powered, you know the small gas cylinders used for soda bottles? Can shoot steel, glass or plastic balls. They are reasonably strong, would hurt getting hit on your skin and possibly break skin but wouldn't kill someone. Pistols pretty inaccurate too, as most pistols are. Mine is a stainless revolver, looks and feels very realistic. You can get the same thing will take proper air rifle slugs which would be much better but about 10,000 baht. Mine shoots BB's and about 5000-7000 baht. As far as being illegal apparently there are no particular laws covering them, and it's all a bit vague. I think it's something like not illegal to own one, but illegal to carry or display or have in public. There are plenty of shops sell them. I don't know if it's a good idea to invest too much in these even the good ones back home (Crossman etc) seem to have a lot of problems with seals. A good old fashion hand pump air rifle would be the best if you can find one. Pretty expensive I think but I have seen them at the local yearly festivals where they have the rows of market stalls. Usually military looking type shops selling knives etc. The rifles they usually have out of view but display the pistols

As far as chickens hmmmm, probably just look at you like is that the best you can do. I know what you mean and I used to do the same thing in the village and maybe you scare them but they were back the next day. I remember Mrs came out with a sling shot. Hit one right in the head and killed it stone dead lol. We ended up cooking it which was a waste of time. An old boot would have been more tender and flavoursome.

I used to shoot at ducks that took a liking to swimming (and dirtying) our pool back home with a proper HP air rifle and didn't faze them. A sling shot hard to beat for chooks, usually available at your local village shop

Thanks for the advice.  Slingshot rubbers here are really bad.   The Shop down at Wang Plong has them.  I bought one slingshot with their rubbers to shot the round plastic coated crackers at the pigeons.  I worked the slingshot and the missus worked the lighter.  Worked great until a rubber band broke and the cracker went up about 2 metres and came back at us! Went off and scared the khrap out of the lighter....who quit on the spot. I need a safer alternative!

Again mate those yearly festivals they have in Isaan most cities have some pretty wicked slingshots. The type braces over your wrist and has the surgical rubbers. Last time I got one was at the water front markets Nong Kai but most night markets around the place I've seen has a guy selling knives, swords and these sort of things.

I put a dab of white grease on the magazine O-ring of mine.

I've got a Winsoft brand one. Decently made thing but inaccurate as anything and if I leave the thing sitting for more than a few months normally no gas left in it. I was using the steel balls but these rust in the packet pretty quick. Do you mean the o'ring the gas cylinder screws up against? Do you find yours pretty much as I've described mine?

Mine an airsoft and leaks at the fill o ring, seems the o ring goes brittle and the white grease (told by thai friend to do it) keeps it supple...I pop the o ring out and put the grease under it.

I only used plastic pellets as I use it to keep the feral cats out of my yard, I say used as Ive retired it and now use a gel blaster.
