treetops
The above flights will only be carrying passengers on the outbound leg, so folk currently in the UAE, and will return to Dubai with freight only.
VBF
Well you have to give them praise for trying. ???? Sorry for those folks in, say, Thailand, who want to get back to UK or Europe via Dubai but maybe they'll find a way to open that sector up sometime soon. There is a sizeable UK community in the UAE, don't forget Abu Dhabi is just down the road. With schools and universities closed probably until September I can see some demand for LHR - DXB as kids return to mum and dad. I must admit it looks like this announcement has caught a lot of the aviation commentators by surprise.

I think on Thursday when the government ban expires we'll see a lot more flights including travel to Dubai and transit onwards.

Current flights are operating from Dubai to: London Heathrow (four times weekly), Frankfurt (thrice-weekly), Manila (15, 16, 20, 22 and 24 April), Algiers (16 April), Taipei (18 April), and Chicago (18 April). Stringent entry restrictions remain in place at these destinations as well as others across the world; travellers advised to check before travel. Safety and wellbeing of customers and crew remain Emirates’ top priorities. All Emirates aircraft will go through enhanced cleaning and disinfection processes in Dubai, after each journey. Nothing about Bangkok..... Edited April 15, 2020 by VBF

While you are correct the Travel update pertains to April flights. My update was timed at 06:30 the site that reports this uses GDS data to which end I have checked their booking system and you can book a flight for 2 May at 10,370bht. EK373 BKK-DXB EK007 DXB-LHR both on A380 or you can book through to Frankfurt if you prefer at 10,780bht. The flight is optimised for LHR connection. The flight from Bangkok is not daily on the booking as I suspect the meant 3 a week from 1 May then 2 daily 15 May. As I said there is a caveat on short notice changes. With respect, I wonder if: "the site that reports this...." is actually accurate Does Emirates own booking system allow these May bookings, or are you only looking at a 3rd party? Thanks for your earlier posts - clearly well-intentioned ????and I'm NOT just being argumentative but am wondering why that Travel update page hasn't been updated since I posted (14 hours ago) - it's now 06:30 GMT, 10:30 Dubai by the way. To try and answer for tso310, these flights have been added to the GDS system and if you go onto Emirates' site you can see that they are bookable. However, there's a long way to go before they actually take off and lots could change before then. For example, just a few weeks ago they added Dubai to Heathrow, Frankfurt, Brussels, Paris and Zurich but only 2 of the 5 got over the start line. tso310
Thanks Treetops. As regards GDS data its up to the airlines to send their own data out to the likes of SABRE, AMADEUS etc. Changes to schedules will trigger an alert notice on users of these systems but as you say Emirates own booking system will reflect what is actually possible. Emirates are certainly ramping up in May. One reason is that they need the money. Dubai is primarily a trading nation with extremely limited oil and gas revenue so heavy state subsidising, eg Qatar with its huge gas reserves, is a limited option. Also with the value of their A380s plunging southwards as airlines are now planning to retire them, this makes commercial borrowing more expensive. In a Covid-19 thread its obvious Emirates are considerably cheaper than other airlines, but I expect them to respond.
