Non- O Marriage situation

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, just looking for some help and seeing if anyone has had a similar situation.

I have a multi entry Non-o visa based on marriage. As you may or may not know, I am allowed to stay at most 90 days in which then I would have to leave ( fly somewhere or cross a boarder) and then be let back in for another 90 days. My Non-o Is good until Sep. 2020

In Feb. I got the 60 day extension at Chiang Mai Immigration, and now I am suppose to leave end of April, but with all of the shenanigans going down, I am not sure what my options are, since Boarders are closed and can not fly out anywhere.

Could I extend again? Do I need a letter from the US consulate? Not sure of anyone out there is in a similar situation? Any help would be appreciated.

If anything I will be going to Chiang Mai Immigration myself sometime end of this week or beginning of next week to go ask in person and can update this thread if need be.

Thanks in advance.

Since you have already done the one 60 day extension you would have to request a special extension will require a letter from you embassy. You may be able to get another 60 day extension but that would depend upon the office where you apply.

Hopefully we will know how the new longer stay extension will work early next week. At this time all you can do is wait and see.

I was in the same sort of situation. Have been Non O ME for a good number of years works or should I say worked great for me untill of course Mr Covid-19 reared its ugly head and put a massive spanner in the works.

Now since I crossed into Laos in February giving me till may then with a 60 day extension giving to to July.

I  sat and thought about this having an idea that this very situation may well arise seeing it spread and close China and then start to close Europe.

I decided to give myself breathing room bite the bullet and go for an extension of stay based on retirement (lesser of the two evils being my thoughts). I approached my local immigration office took a number and waited then when called sat and asked questions like what do I need when can I do this .(I had took the precaution of getting what I have seen is needed on here together bank letter copies ect) I was  over the 45 day away mark but the immigration officer said it wouldn't be an issue due to the exceptional circumstances and he proceeded to process my application. Still wary I handed over everything and the 1900 (why do they need you to get it photocopied?)

30 minutes later I was on my way home with an extension of stay till May 16th 2021 (one year from the date my then current permission to stay via 90 day stamp ran out.)

To me it was a no brainer I'm now safe for a year nothing to worry about visa or extension wise. Can do 90 days on line here I was told or by mail.

I'm/was a fully paid up member of the stay away from immigration at all costs type of person however given what we are going through and all the reports I see on here re the 90 day issues I'm glad I decided to do this. Makes perfect sense to me.
