Storm warning for Bangkok region

BANGKOK: -- The Meteorological Department has issued a second warning of possible violent summer storms in Bangkok today, as well as throughout much of upper Thailand.

"A cold air mass from China and hot weather of Thailand will create tropical storms, heavy rain, gusty wind, and hail in some provinces of Thailand," the Met warned early this afternoon Thailand time.

It said the North and Northeast were already affected by the weather.

"This (Wednesday) afternoon, the tropical storm may hit Bangkok and eastern region," the department said.

In addition, forecasters expect heavy rain in the South throughout the Songkran weekend, which begins in earnest tomorrow afternoon.

Waves of about two metres are expected off Phuket and other Andaman coastal provinces.
