PHNOM PENH: Cambodia has waived overstay fines for tourists stranded in the kingdom due to the ongoing disruption to flights caused by the Covid-19 (coronavirus) outbreak, according to a foreign ministry's diplomatic note released to the media on Saturday (April 4).
 

 

In the note sent to all diplomatic and consular missions accredited to Cambodia on Friday, the ministry said due to the COVID-19 outbreak, some foreign tourists who arrived in Cambodia after Jan. 1 have not been able to return to their countries as there is no availability of flights.

"The Royal Government of Cambodia has decided, effective from 3 April 2020, to grant automatic extension of tourist visa (Visa T) to those foreign citizens and to exempt their visa overstay fines until they will be able to depart Cambodia," the note said.

Yeah, definitely giving serious consideration to moving to Cambodia, when this is all over. 

And Thailand used to think it was the most progressive of the SE Asian countries ! Never was and never will be ! A corrupt bureaucratic jungle ! 

Maybe this kind act will show some humility to the immigration policies here. Oh, but never mind as it is a matter of national security.

Exactly, no chance tourists in Thailand will be that lucky, or it will be too late by the time its implemented.

I can invision the automatic visa extension being granted then the next day borders open.????????????

Hard to believe that Cambodia is more enlightened than Thailand!  In this case sanity rules in Cambodia.
