The Department of Highways has said that people travelling outside Bangkok on highways has reduced by 44 per cent. To prevent outbreaks of Covid-19, the government has issued measures that have reduced public movement outdoors. Vehicles exiting Bangkok via highways is 44 per cent lower compared to the Songkran festival last year.

Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob said he had ordered the Department of Highways to closely monitor the situation of people travelling outside the capital or returning home in this period although the government has announced the cancellation of holidays for the Songkran festival along with campaigning for people to stay home to prevent Covid-19 from spreading.

The number of vehicles departing Bangkok via main highways and motorways on Saturday was 408,706, 33 per cent less than during the normal period and 44 per cent lower compared to the Songkran festival exodus in 2019.

There were 37 accidents on April 10, down 81 per cent compared to the same day last year. There were five deaths on April 10, which is 87 per cent lesser than last year, and 24 injuries, down 89 per cent.

The only real positive to take from this situation is that there are probably 50 people per day that thankfully haven't been killed on the roads here.

Will this continue long term once the virus ends? Highly doubtful.

Y'know, it's twisted logic but you can't fault it!

Well for once they seem to be following the advice/rules.

Yes! They all went home 3 weeks ago. You stupid or something!

Why not down 90% who and why are so many travelling and spreading, are the inter province temp checks still in place ?

It’s bl..dy lovely riding about on Phuket of late.

At night it’s so quiet and still ????

Only going to grocery shop but still even on fairly short rides it very nice on almost empty roads. The lack of crazy dangerous falangs on the road is very nice too (the lack of looney Thai drivers n riders is also a nice side effect of C19).

On almost deserted roads with a ban on the sale of alcohol in almost all the provinces they still find a way to kill themselves :annoyed:

Went to tesco in phon today, roads very quiet, however, most of the muppets seemed to be going 44% faster

Same here in the US.  Here in my town of Peoria Arizona, traffic must be down at least 60, 70%.  I only get out to visit my Mother or go to the grocery store, but it's sweet.

Too bad that Thailand is so high on the list. I miss Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria, as they

and some in Africa used to help Thailand stay further down the list. Now thevirus may help

this years numbers.

Geezer
