BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thais will have to find another way to cool off this year after the government called off the annual water festival that celebrates the Buddhist New Year to curb the outbreak of the new coronavirus.

Finance Ministry clarifies 5,000-baht monthly cash handout issue

BANGKOK(NNT)-The Ministry of Finance has so far given financial aid of 5,000 baht a month to some 1.6 million workers nationwide, to ease the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak. Registrants have received an SMS message regarding their eligibility for the government’s financial assistance. Some have received an SMS notification saying they are ineligible, because they are farmers. The issue has raised several questions, since they are not farmers.

BANGKOK(NNT)-A German news agency has praised the Thai government’s measures to cope with COVID-19 saying that the German government should learn from the Thai government, while adding that even in small provinces of Thailand, the COVID-19 preventive measures are stricter than those of Berlin, Germany.

SEOUL (Reuters) - South Korea plans to send kits designed to run up to 600,000 coronavirus tests to the United States on Tuesday after an appeal from U.S. President Donald Trump, a Seoul official said.

BEIJING (Reuters) - China dismissed on Monday allegations leveled by African and U.S. diplomats that foreigners of African appearance in the city of Guangzhou were being subjected to forceful testing for coronavirus, quarantine and ill treatment.

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain’s finance minister has told colleagues the economy could shrink by up to 30% this quarter because of the coronavirus lockdown, a newspaper reported, as the soaring death toll gave little hope restrictions would soon be lifted.

SEOUL (Reuters) - South Korea reported on Monday that at least 116 people initially cleared of the new coronavirus had tested positive again, although officials suggested they would soon look at easing strict recommendations aimed at preventing new outbreaks.

Delivery firms put work on hold as Phuket closes district borders
