Brian Dennehy was warmly remembered by his Hollywood and Broadway peers, including Sylvester Stallone, after he died at 81 on Wednesday from natural causes.

The Tony award-winning actor of stage and screen, best known for his roles in Cocoon and First Blood, passed away at his home in New Haven, Connecticut Wednesday evening, according to TMZ. There will not be an official autopsy.

Stallone took to Instagram on Thursday with a shot of himself and the late actor in the 1982 film First Blood, in which Stallone played Rambo and Brian Dennehy played Teasle.

'The great actor Brian Dennehy has passed away,' Stallone wrote. 'He simply was A brilliant performer ... He also was a Vietnam vet that helped me very much building the character of RAMBO.'

When working as a server in a restaurant in Palm Beach, Florida, I had the pleasure of waiting on Mr. Dennehy one evening, dining by himself before doing a show that evening at the Royal Poinciana Playhouse. No ego at all, just the most self-effacing, pleasant guy you'd ever want to meet, very polite. I remember thinking what a classy guy he was as he left. He never looked around to see who was looking at him as many/most of the celebrities we'd see often did.

Any brilliant performance from Stallone certainly was not in acting.

If you haven't seen it yet, watch 'to catch a killer' with Dennehy. It is fantastic!  ????

He played the part so well that it is hard to like the character, but superbly done.

RIP Brian D. He had a long and busy film career. Played many types of roles and was always convincing in them. Nice to know he had a damn good innings and went out at home with family.
