Arriving unannounced is very common here. We've had friends and relatives turn up many times without a hint that they were coming. Sometimes, just like the guy in the story, from quite some distance.

'Oh, we thought we'd surprise you'. They do that alright!

But right now, they would not be welcome here and I've asked Madam Moon to make sure they understand that.

Our village is virus free right now and I want it to stay that way.

Live and learn. I've always regarded it as good manners to phone ahead in order to make sure I am welcome, but come to think of it my GF's daughter sometimes turns up on the doorstep without prior notice. I don't mind that, she is serious eye candy.

How long do you think it takes to be infected?

Do you think that just because he is on her property he is going to be closer than 2 meters? She could let him live under the house or if that's not possible under some sort of shelter for 2 weeks.

Don't forget that he may have helped her buy the property, which is what Thai families do.

Rules are rules. If you don't come into contact with others, you can't become infected, simples!

This whole panic, sensationalism and over reaction

154,000 dead globally and counting - you call that sensationalism and over reaction? This is serious now and if only 1 life is saved by people acting responsibly, its more than worthwhile.

Just for comparison... So yes I do... Doesn't mean I like to see people die but it's definitely being sensationalized

"Malaria kills one child every 30 seconds, about 3000 children every day. Over one million people die from malaria each year, mostly children under five years of age, with 90 per cent of malaria cases occurring in Sub-Saharan Africa. An estimated 300-600 million people suffer from malaria each year" from Unicef.org

Nobody is trying to deflect attention from other diseases - all deaths are regretable - its not a competition. As fas as I know though, the fight against Malaria is ongoing with some encouraging new developments but at the moment it is still not won.  Its a fact that more needs doing about it - as it does with the children that die in Africa every day because they don't have access to clean water........the list goes on. None of that makes Covid 19 any less serious though.

The reason that deaths from Covid 19 are not in the millions already is because it is relatively easy to prevent infection - don't come in to contact with others. If that's sensationalism then lets get even more sensantional.

For sure it's not a competition but the reaction is out of proportion. The resultant lock down has created a media monster, as nothing else to report on they need to resort to sensationalism to sell their content. Which then makes the whole situation self sustaining...

If sensationalism keeps people apart and indoors - bring it on. So many people appearing on TV here who hadn't taken it seriously before - now they have it or a relative had died - they take it very seriously now. It shouldn't have to come to that.
