Bangkok's deputy commissioner of police updated the press on the case of an armed robber who stole more than 100,000 baht from a BAAC bank branch in Prawet district on Monday last week.

Maj-Gen Itthiphon Atjariyaprasit said that police believe the man acted alone and planned the heist very well.

He claimed that they know who he is and suspect that he is lying low in Bangkok.

However, they have sent pictures of the man to immigration so borders can be on the lookout.

(MCOT didn't mention the fact that borders are closed right now due to coronavirus).

Itthiphon said that following the robbery the thief changed clothes then drove a motorcycle on a 70-80 kilometer journey in an attempt to confuse police.

The bike proved to be stolen after the police tracked down the real owner.

The robber had cased the joint many times before committing the robbery, he said.

Not related directly to this heist was a CCTV shown on Thai TV News a few days ago showing Somchai parking his bike outside a (mobile phone) store and walking in through the plate glass doors. Snips of him browsing the suddenly running from the store with a phone in his hand, jumping on the motorcy and roaring away. Shot of the store keeper running after him.

She contacted the police and reported the theft suggesting that they might contact him (gave name and address) since he had forgotten to pick up his drivers licence he had shown to get a SIMM.

HMS Darwin will enter harbour.
