Complicated position regarding Non-Imm visa

Recommended Posts

My Non-Immigrant B visa is due to expire on 26 April and as I'm retiring, I have no intension of renewing my work permit and extending the 'B'. Before the pandemic, I had planned to leave Thailand for a trip to Vietnam and re-enter on a 30 day entry permit before visiting KL in June for non-imm O visa.

I have been paying in 65k into my Bangkok Bank account since August 2019, however I do not have 800k to hand at present. I'm not sure what to do next. I'm in Phuket and in lockdown in my district until 30 April, so I can't event visit Immigration to check with them before 1 May.

Also as I understand it the visa amnesty until July is for tourist visas only.

Does anyone with good knowledge have an idea of what I should do now?

If you cannot apply for your extension you do qualify for the amnesty. It is not limited to a tourist visas.

If you have proof your have been transfering 65k baht into a Thai bank account from abroad you do not need 800k baht in the bank. For the first extension you only need a few months of transfers.

You could change change the reason for your extension to retirment without leaving the country.

Phuket immigration has set up some mobile offices. There should be one of those you could go to find out about applying for the extension.

Than you Joe. I did not realise that for the first extension I only needed a few months of transfers. Unfortunately my district doesn't have a mobile office but I might ask the police if they can let me through the cordon to visit immigration.

Even during a lockdown you should be able to visit your local immigration office.
