Converting a tourist visa to an ed visa

Featured Replies

Let's say somebody is here is on a tourist visa and their date of entry was early March. Clearly they are permitted to stay until 31 July. But what if they plan to study at a university that can help its students convert a tourist visa to an ed visa. Could they start the process in early July and get it done by 31 July?

It will depend upon whether immigration considers the "automatic extensions" as a tourist visa extension or not. They should but that is not clear at this time. They could just consider it a grace period and not a extension of a a visa entry of any kind.

The only way to know for sure is to ask the office where you will be applying for the non immigrant visa.

Hi Joe

My multiple entry non o marriage visa stamp ends in beginning of June.

Assuming there will be no more amnesty extensions if I put money in the bank in mid may and go to immigration 2 months later (mid July) to extend to 1 year based on 400k money in the bank will immigration allow this or will I be required to leave the country?

I am not sure what they will say. You should be able to apply for the one year extension after your current permit to stay and you go onto the "automatic extension.

It may be best to and ask your local office before your current entry ends so that you could apply for a 60 day extension ti visit your wife if they say no or are not sure.

I just got accepted to the local University with classes starting 22 June. I had a Education Visa with HandTwoHand Combat. The University did all of the paperwork within 3 day and all I had to do was take it to the local immigration for a new Education Visa. I didn't have to leave the country or jump through any hoops. My suggestion to you, is to ask the University that you plan to attend, as they will handle everything for you and give you the proper advice.

What's the starting date of your new visa? Is it 22 June?

They had me do a termination letter from my present school, so that Education Visa ends and new one starts the following day. Which for me is 13 May. I am not sure, but once you terminate the old school that you have 30 or 60 days deadline to start your new school, after you are issued the new education visa. I believe it starts 13 May.
