April 15, 200719 yr Two water pumps for fire extinguishers are now being kept on the Phi Phi Don Island of Krabi so that they can be promptly used in case of fires. The pumps and associated equipment was handed over to Krabi Governor Siwa Sirisaowaluk by the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation centre in Surat Thani with a manpower station there for equipment maintenance and practice. The allocation of the equipment followed February’s fire on the beach front of the island which largely damaged people’s property, even though residents and tourists helped put the fire out using sea water, but with no proper equipment.
