Two people were hurt when a minibus hit a pickup truck in Najomtien. Pickup passenger Won Chairin, 50, suffered serious injuries and minivan driver Pongsatorn Tung, 26, hurt his hand in the May 6 wreck on Sukhumvit Road outside Eua Arthorn Village. Both were treated at Queen Sirikit Naval Medical Center. The accident proved to be a he said-she said affair, with Pongsatorn claiming that Ladda Kangkan, the 42-year-old driver of a Nissan NV, cut him off, causing him to rear-end the car. I saw the remains of the wreckage yesterday big blue bucket and lots of tarpaulin all in the central reservation and wondered what had happened. KhunBENQ
I looked at the article to see the minivan. Quite harmless damage to the front (have a look). And if the passenger in the front seat(?) would have buckled up, his head would not have hit the windshield Then thinking is this "pickup" made of plastic? No, but not really what you call a pickup. Two idiots met? Most accidents take more than one silly driver.

The Minivan driver hurt his hand and it certainly wasn't his head that hit the windshield on the extreme left hand side. Think again. Keeryd will be along shortly to give us a full break down of how the accident happened and what can ( or could ) be done to prevent is happening again ( maybe ). He's like our very own CSI ( Thai style ). Off to get some popcorn now...

Yes unfortunately the minibus drivers are still always "in a rush to meet their fathers" constantly weaving and changing lanes, pay more attention to their phones some are drunk quite a few on amphetamines so they can drive all day and night which eventually leads to a "microsleep" or "brake failure" and crashes like the one above... one day the "government" might wake up (in a few hundred years) and implement strict licensing ,testing of driver and vehicles conveying the public around along with a strict limit of total hours driven in a day speed limited vehicles and tachographs instead of making them fit a GPS !!!!! and carry on as normal. Just because it's a minivan. On the facts that we can see, being the damage to respective vehicles, the minibus driver's version is, by far the more plausible. The minibus is damaged on the right hand side and the pick up is heavily damaged on its left hand side. Both are inconsistent with the 'rear end shunt' version that the lady claimed it was. Knowing very well the area where this happened and knowing that the Nissan NV lived in the "Eua Arthorn Village" I'll speculate that the NV driver came out of the village entrance onto the main Sukhumvit road wanting to make a U-turn which is just a couple of hundred meters further south, lots of Thais for some reason will not "merge" into traffic they wait till they think the coast is clear and then dash straight across/slightly diagonally many lanes to the far right lane at a slow speed..the far right lane is often occupied by speeding minibuses there is a slight left hand curve in that part of the road and often vehicles blocking the left hand lane view (minibus drivers view) as they turn into the village..so both drivers could have easily not seen each other till it was too late. Postmaster
Yes KhunBENQ you have a point but probably one careless manoevre by the pick up driver may have been averted if speed was a factor with the minibus.

mikebell
In any accident involving a minibus driver, the odds are definitely high it was his fault. Speed kills but RTP have yet to realise this and put in place measures to curb these excesses.
