May 18, 20206 yr Popular Post I just had a real mind destroying conversation with my long distance girl friend. I gave her a pair of nice Bluetooth earbuds. I knew it would be difficult for me to make her understand how to set it up. However, it was far far worse that I could have imagined. First there was the charging cable which had two ends, one big and the other small. Twenty minutes to explain that the small end goes into the small socket. Telling here which side goes up and the other down also too time. With that solved we moved onto the inserting into the ear part. Like most people, she has just two ears. They were marked with an R and an L. Since video chat often reverses the right and left make it even more challenging. So 15 or 20 minutes later we figures out which was her right and which was her left hand. So then we moved on to right and left ears. She naturally insisted the the L earbud goes into the right ear and the R goes into the left ear. I took a beer brake. So now we get all that sorted out. Then I have her take out the right one to turn it off. She actually gets it correct. Now I have to see the light on the right one to see if the Bluetooth light is flashing. Of course, she now shows me the left one. Eventually we even get that sorted our. The next stumbling block was that she kept pushing the button on the right earbud which would terminate the call The pairing which I had to translate into Thai for her to understand was actually not too bad. Lastly I was getting feedback because the volume was way to loud. In a mere 10 minutes I managed to get her to lower it. More than one hour to do a 5 minute job. Good thing she is cute!
May 18, 20206 yr Nice work, pays to have patience. My wife speaks pretty good English but still gets left and right mixed up often. If she tells me to take left turn I go for a right. ????❤???????? wife.
May 18, 20206 yr It takes the patience of a saint. My Wife is very tech savvy, so I have no issue there. She still gets left and right mixed up though ! I'm forever assisting my Father (82 yrs old) with his MacBook and my Mum with her iPad and iPhone. From frequently forgotten passwords, changed passwords, apps which wont log in, computer wont connect to the printer (over Wifi), TeamViewer deleted (so I can't login remotely and help)... the list is endless, I've spend hours and hours sorting out the Tech issues my parents encounter. Every time I go home I have to pretty much start them off from scratch on their 'devices'... it takes time, patience and they generally forget everything I tell them and I just repeat it next time. But, I don't mind, it keeps them happy and allows them to contact me whenever they want, surf the internet, watch Netflix etc etc... they're happy = I'm happy. Yinn, you do become boring with the 'me Jane you Tarzan' dumbed down over simplification in defense of anything Thai in threads such as this - given the lack of tech knowledge the Ops Girlfriend has shown I'd hazard a guess that you would struggle to explain how to use simple tech with any greater efficiency. Except she is 34 and left/right and big/little end is hardly high tech.

May 19, 20206 yr Guess you chose beauty over brain. Your mistake. To each his or her own but to complain later over your own choice.. bit rich. ????
May 19, 20206 yr Author I did not complain. I simply posted in the banter forum what happened. Your comment was unwanted and shows who you are.

Surely you could have sent something requiring zero technical expertise as a present?

Well...I had to chuckle about your original post but I'm laughing even more now that you have to explain it all to the concrete (to put it mildly) thinkers on this forum. Best of luck..???? More than once I explained that the issues were NOT, got it NOT, technical. They had to do with what up and down and left and right was.
May 24, 20206 yr I can understand your frustration AAArdvark, although it's quite sensible your girlfriend acquires new skills as she is presently furloughed from her position as a Thai Airways Airline Captain. Don't concern yourself too greatly about the left and right issue, it rarely has much relevance in day to day issues.
