Entry to visit family

Featured Replies

My father is retired in Thailand and is very old. I'm from the US, and our local consulate is closed. Has anyone heard of people being granted entry to visit retired family members who are elderly/ill?

No.

I am afraid you will not find much help here.  Sorry about your father...have you contacted the Red Cross to see if they have some suggestions?

You could try contacting the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, and explaining the situation. You being given permission to join one of the repatriation flights is a real long shot, and it is almost certain that you would face a period of mandatory quarantine on arrival. There are many people in your situation, or similar, including those wanting to join Thai nationals who are gravely ill.

Just wait a couple of months and likely will be able to see him

If you don't already - - hook up with him on skype... I find it quite satisfying a way to visit w/friends far away... if he is not good w/computer, there are people here who will help.... good luck to you. I would not want to sit on a plane at this point. I believe you will still be subject to a quarantine period..

Nothing really new there and that is not a official website. See the botttom to the page and you will see this "This is NOT the official website of the Thai Embassy."

Best to use officilal websites for accurate info.

Agree Skype is a good way to keep in contact. I'm outside of LOS, every morning my Thai son (in LOS) or his Thai wife tell their 3 kids they have to tell mummy or daddy what they are going to prepare to show to grandfather on a LINE videochat the following afternoon (we do the videochat every second day).

Simple example, the youngest granddaughter (5) loves to do colouring, she often asks mum/dad to print outlines of Mickey Mouse or a horse etc., then she colours it with her coloured pencils.

All of this activity puts some structure in the day for the kids and structure for the videochat.

When I see the page I ask silly questions / make silly questions like  'but all horses are purple' this prompts responses like 'grandfather you're silly' (all of my Thai family speak Thai and English).

A week ago my eldest grandaughter said (on the videochat) 'grandfather you need a haircut', which is quite true.

It's good fun and sometimes the videochat continues for 90 minutes or so, great way to keep the family together.

All of this can be adapted to different age groups etc.

The foreign ministry said people with urgent needs to come to Thailand should approach their embassy or consulate as situations will be evaluated on case-by-case basis.

If you do, please let us here know how it went.
