Army targets lower budget

The Army is planning to lower its budget in the long term by diminishing its size and not adding any more civil officials.

 

Defence Ministry Spokesman Spokesman Lt-General Kongcheep Tantawanich said today (June 15) that reserves will be promoted to soldiers and civil servants will be upgraded to civil officials.

 

“Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha had urged the Army to undertake reforms,” he said. “Reserved soldiers will temporarily take responsibility as active-duty soldiers and civil servants will be appointed as officials.”

 

The plan was approved by the Cabinet on June 9 and more positions besides that of a soldier, such as doctors, legal officials, accountants, instructors, academics and administrators, are expected to increase in the 2021 fiscal year.

 

Employment contracts lasting 4-8 years for young reserves started in April 2020 and the selection will be completed at the end this 2020 fiscal year.

Is that why soldiers seized documents during a budget meeting claiming they were Top Secret.

Do what Taiwan did.  Stop drafting people who do not want to join.  Those already drafted, let them leave if they choose to do so.  Also maybe stop buying weapon systems that cannot talk to each other.

So then why are they about to launch a satellite from French Guiana????????? Is it some sort of freebie?

Another good initiative acted by Khun Prayut Chan O Cha.   

They are doing it, before they are pushed.

Easy way for the army to lower the budget, cut 1 thousand generals, army would still have too many generals even after doing that.

Just think how much of the armies budget would be saved by getting rid of them.

555 PM is Minister in charge of the Army and Police so he doesn't need to urge them he can just order it.
Oh and what reforms did he make whilst he was boss of the Military?

How about full transparency of the army to parliament, so they can set a responsible budget? (Ain't gonna happen, too many people need their hands in that black box cookie jar).

It's the new space force Thai style!  Will be interesting to see if it reaches orbit....and stays in orbit.

Cut the budget !!, but who are going to buy all the useless

military equipment that does not work, is overpriced,and

not fit for purpose, like the blimp,bomb detectors,Chinese

tanks that developed cracks,then there's the Navy.......and

the Air Force.

I agree, people are getting a bit fed up with the military's prestige projects and top heavy structure, when they themselves are scrabbling around finding enough to eat. In the good times, OK, no-one cared very much, give to Caeser what is Caeser's. Nowadays, it's belt tightening time. 

Translated into English, this means there's no money left because we've had to buy food for poor people; we will have to tighten our belts and wait a couple of years before we can get the commissions on our toys moving again.
