Foster mum

I was going round the grass picking the weeds out then  spotted a tiny chick in the grass. it looked around a day old.

There were no apparent nest above, but there is a Zebra dove nesting in a pot further along the wall, seeing that the chick looked like a dove I thought it would be an ideal foster mum.

Not knowing at the time she was already sitting on two chicks so I just tossed it in the pot with her, she flapped a bit but stayed on the nest.

A few days later she was off the nest so had a quick look three chicks all about the same size.

Now its obvious that the Huge orphan was not a Zebra dove, but mum is busy feeding all three

Let's hope that orphan does not turn out to be a bird of prey!
