Politician’s son allegedly linked to daring escape plots to spring Banyin loose from jail

A politician’s son has been linked to the escape plan of former deputy commerce minister Banyin Tangpakorn, the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) said today (June 22).

CSD deputy commander Pol Colonel Anek Taosupap said evidence collected by investigators showed there were two plans designed to spring Banyin loose from jail.

The first one was Banyin’s accomplice would attack the vehicle transporting him on the expressway enroute to Phra Khanong Civil Court in an attempt to free him. If this failed, the prison chief would be kidnapped as a hostage in exchange for Banyin’s freedom.

Anek said the investigators, however, did not find solid evidence about Banyin's reported plans to escape using a helicopter or lobbing bombs into the prison.

Nattapon Norakarn, 30, who was previously arrested for being involved in the escape plot, had alleged connections with the son of a politician, who was a Banyin associate, summoned to give a testimony to the police.

My wife was telling me yesterday there was an article in the Thai press about a foiled plan to spring him using a helicopter.

Not really a big difference between organized crime and politics here.

Better include the military into that statement as well.

Jep this guy is a PTP (Thaksin politician) and then we got the drug minister on the other side. No wonder that nobody likes to vote or protests. What are the options corruption and crime on one side and on the other side.

All these politicians are in it for themselves and corrupt as.....

Worry not, only in civilized countries would this mean ANYthing

Can somebody quickly sum up the whole story? From the beginning, why is he even in the prison in the first place. And how some minister have an personal army which plots these armed escapes?

I just thought wild west or banana republic when I read this one. Thailand still is open to corruption, corrupt cops and politicians, and all the rest of it. If you look at the big picture with whose actually controlling things and how, as well as the abuses of the institutions, it all fits into a country that really still has no real law or morality.

I meant: Not really a big difference between organized crime, "military" and politics here.

... yup, here the recent post of an esteemed colleague to that end ... but do read further there, also his wife died earlier in an ... uh, accident, with him driving too ...

And with these latest actions Mr. Banyin has proven once again that he is a dangerous criminal who should remain locked up for the rest of his life.

Let's recall:

In 2015, Banyin was accused of forging documents to transfer 300 million baht worth of shares owned by his friend and businessman Chuwong Sae Tang to three female con-conspirators. When things didn't go as planned, Banyin invited his friend Chuwong on a little road trip, driving the latter's expensive sports car while Chuwong occupied the front passenger seat. An "accident" happened, in which Chuwong was killed while Banyin escaped unharmed. Investigators at the time were surprised that the very minor car accident would actually have caused Chuwong's death while driver Banyin only sustained a few scratches. Banyin denied any wrongdoing, of course, but was nevertheless indicted.

As the case proceeded (with Banyin still free on bail), the 70-year-old brother of the presiding judge was kidnapped by four men outside the court on Feb 4 this year in an apparent attempt to force the judge to drop the indictment against Banyin. Investigators found that the car - again - was driven by Banyin, who took the 70-year-old to a remote area in Nakorn Sawan province, where he was subsequently murdered by Banyin's accomplices. The body was burned and the remains put in a fertilizer bag and thrown into the river., from where they were later retrieved. Unsurprisingly, Banyin denied any involvement.

And now, finally behind bars where he belongs, he planned yet another kidnapping (and, most likely, yet another murder)?

With a track record like that, one really also must wonder how many more murders might be on Banyin's conscience; murders that haven't yet been attributed to Banyin but which probably are strewn along his entire "career" path as a former policeman and later politician.

In fact cronyism, nepotism and corruption benefits (big time/big money) are the only reason why many of these miscreants join political parties. Put another way, many of them are recruited into parties because they have these attributes.

Double points in that regard.

wouldn't it be easier to just "beam him up, Scottie"?

This has all the makings for a nice new television series.  We can title it The Great Banyin escape....

They've been watching "Fast & Furious" too many times...

So much of this could end by a lead shell.  Doubt that would be the

end result as so many of the World scumbags live so much longer

than they all should. What a world.

Geezer
