Roadside / Breakdown Assistance For Vehicles

Featured Replies

I may be getting a motor soon and want to know what assistance you can get here such as the AA or RAC in the UK. I've tried googling but without success.

Does anyone have any details ?

Thanks

In the last 5 years, I have had one or two problems and on each occasion the local"rescue teams" have beem extremely helpful. I believe there is a Thai AA equivelant but dont think they offer roadside assistance

If you buy a new Honda you will automaticly get free roadside assistance. Also their is a company that provides 24 hour assistance, Car World Club, tel: 02 260-1111. Give them fa call for details and prices.

we use car world club, premium assistance runs to about 2000 odd baht per year. A bargain. This package includes free car hire if you have a repair which takes more than 6 hours when out of your home province.

A couple of times we've let the battery go flat, and they have been on the scene within 30mins in BKK.

I have travelled around a lot of Thailand and have needed some assistance a few times. Within a few minutes of stopping, or grinding to a halt, A Thai has stopped to ask if things are OK and if not has either gone to get me help or pointed me in the right direction. I once hired a bike to do a visa run from Hua Hin to Ranong. On the way back bike blew up big style about 150km from home. Within 5 minutes a truck had stopped and between my little Thai, his little English and some sign language we found I was going to HH, they to Bangkok. They eventually hauled the bike onto the truck and they took me to my house in HH. They would not accept anything for this and have found this to be the rule rather than the exception. Dont worry about it, just go out and explore. Its a beautiful country.

I blew a tire out near Mae Hong Son once, the spare was flat but it didn't matter, the wheel brace bent like a liquorice stick in my hand anyway. A pickup load of Hills tribe's people stopped, whipped the wheel off in a trice, took it and my Mrs into Mae Sariang, the nearest town, (leaving half a dozen people with me so I wouldn't get lonely), and were soon back with a new tire fitted. I reached for my wallet but my Mrs said she's already given them 300B, they would have got a 1000 from me, I mean that place was out of the way.

Similar from Chevy, needed one time while car was stationed abt month and battery went dead, called to them and they came to our house with in 10minutes, when asked how he came so fast he did reply that chevy have they designated garages almost every where in TH, so after getting our location they did call local guy and he came like thunder.

Chevy provide first 3yrs for free(at least it was when we got the car 2003) and if one like to apply they road service afterwards it's abt 1000THB per year.
