Chester-le-Street dad trapped in Thailand since lockdown desperate to get home

Featured Replies

I went out to Thailand with a friend and after being stranded in Thailand for 1-month ???? I got an EVA Air flight home for 22000 Bhat.

Charlie is still trapped in Thailand and loving every minute of it.

He does not see the point of leaving a safe country to come back to the United Kingdom where he does not feel safe.

This article sounds very similar except for the BS

????Rescue flight? A sensationalist article. He was either broke, lacked initiative or actually didn't want to leave. I wouldn't blame him.

  • So he gave up on trying to get a flight ?.....   Seems to be plenty leaving Swampy !!

Think this is total BS, nearly all tourists purchase a return flight ticket, and when the borders were closed, all airlines offered a deferred return date when flights resumed at NO extra cost, so where does this guy get an extra charge of 88,000B, also many airlines have been putting on return flights back to the UK and EU way back in May,

Think this guy was taking advantage of the Visa waver...

Stuck? It sounds like he made a choice to remain in Thailand. There were some flights for those who wanted them for most of the year.. especially to the UK.

He's a used car salesman back in the UK.....I've heard enough

There was help from the British embassy giving out loans to pay for flights at that time, not sure if still available

Apparently the only flights available would have cost 88,000 baht (£2,200) and he didn't have the money.

umm good excuse for the missus as to why he is staying there wink wink

Airlines have a lot to answer for allowing people with very limited financial means to travel.

Sorry, but they don't have anything to answer for.  They are not Charities, they are profitable (hopefully) fully commercial businesses.

Yeah, blame Thailand for not requiring a security deposit of the man in the first place. B500,000 would probably do. Or some kind of travel insurance that says, "if you run out of money, as you probably will, and can't afford airfare home, it's covered!"

From what I gather; he came to Thailand originally to see temples and experience Buddhism.

Maybe the many Pattaya pretties he has as FB friends were his guides...

Very droll baansgi.

I didn't come to Thailand for the cheap beer and the very accommodating bits of fluff. No, no no.

Looking for I wife I was. Found one outside a bar in Soi Diana. She was different. Didn't smoke. Didn't drink. No drugs. Didn't care about money. Just wanted a happy future. Just what I was looking for after stumbling about in the wilderness.

Perhaps this poor sod just wanted to be happy.

Check her passport - they are not allowed to change it from “Mr”.....????

There have been plenty of flights back to Europe organised by various countries. He not even would have to pay for those upfront but would have received the invoice after the flight.

I reckon he was wanting to use the unused portion of his prepaid Emirates ticket, but they've not started flying to/from BKK yet. Now funds are getting low he's only just thought about a Plan B and this story was the best he could do.
