Alleged cop killer: Red Bull heir has seven years until his case runs out

A senior public prosecutor in the case of alleged cop killer Vorayuth Yoovidhya said they have seven years until the case runs out.

 

Back in September 2012 the heir to the Red Bull drinks empire better known as "Boss" walked away scot free after dragging a policeman under the wheels of his Ferrari in the Thong Lo area of Bangkok. 

 

Investigations have taken place to try and uncover malfeasance in the police handling of the case. 

 

Meanwhile Boss fled abroad and despite being on an Interpol most wanted list he has never been brought to justice. 

 

Commenting on the stalled case deputy public prosecutor  Prayut Petchrakhun said that if Boss steps back into Thailand he will be arrested.

But the statute of limitations runs out on the crime on September 3rd 2027 - 15 years after the alleged crime. 

 

After this time he cannot be prosecuted in Thailand.

 

Prayut said that the case falls into the categories needed to extradite a fugitive. 

 

But the prosecutor's office will only act if they are instructed to do so by the Royal Thai Police. 

 

It was clear that no such instructions have been issued to change the status quo recently. 

 

Boss remains free abroad.

Nearly 8 years and still nothing. If only Thailand had someone like Batman. Sorry, I've been watching too many movies. If only they had some strong and commanding figure. An army type maybe. Someone who could come in, have complete power and who would vow to end corruption and reform the police. A man who could return happiness to the people. 

 

Oh, well. Until someone like that comes along, the corruption and injustice will continue to get worse and unabated, I guess. 

Wherever he is he would have to behave himself if he ever got arrested for anything he would be on his way back to face the music

Plenty of time for a few more brown envelopes to change hands then. Good for them.

So, why doesn't the cops instruct them and ask for an extradition order from whichever country he's living in, and put him on Interpol's “Red Notice”, etc.?

This is another case of money talk and justice walk... I just hope that karma will catch up with him somehow somewhere and soon...

I think pretty much everyone knows the answer to that one already. Much money changed hands for sure and it has bought a whole load of (for once, deliberate) incompetency, which will continue as long as needed. the "Boss" will not be coming back anytime soon.

Cos if the cops did that, the Red Bull Heir's family would be asking for their money back. 

Well, he needs to be caught and prosecuted. Until then, our TVF Legal Analysts will continue to whinge about the unfairness of the arrest of any farang. After the Red Bull heir is caught, and all Thais obey the law strictly, no helmetless Thai motorbike rider ever to be seen anywhere, THEN and only then can the BIB come after the farang overstayers, pedos, drug dealers, boiler room scammers, business cheats, thugs, ATM robbers, girlfriend murderers, and the rest.

 

It's all just SO unfair! Why US, when the Red Bull heir is still out there???

He's not on the interpol list I just looked up for interest.

I rather suspect so - he is much less likely to be arrested here than in any foreign country. Just keep your profile nice and low for the next seven years and you're away.

Most red notices are hidden from public view and only available to law enforcement.

Don't think so. He would be seen at one point or the other and Thai cannot keep their mouths closed.

Its usually to do with evidence deteriorating over time, memories of wtnesses etc. however, most enlightened countries do not have limitations for serious crimes like murder.

Did Boss deliberately kill the Policeman, or was it accidental ?

Murder/Manslaughter, Fleeing the scene of an accident, Drink Driving, Drink Driving causing Death.

Maybe the people in Europe should be made aware of this and boycott the formula 1 red bull team.

I would like to see one of their drivers to quit the team because of this.

At the speed he was traveling, he would have known anyone hit would die.

Charge him with murder and freeze all the families assets.

Someone will decide their wealth is more important than some snot nosed relative.

They don't need any extradition requests, just grab him on one of his frequent visits to Thailand.

Yeah thats not how the legal system works.

You would think if they really wanted him a black car and some mysterious people could grab him at will. Have heard of it happening lately.

Because he ran over a cop and killed him then did a runner.

 

kind of makes sense to want someone that does that be made to face justice. It would be rather odd not to want that.

500 people a day get run over / killed on Thai roads and there must be many people who leave the scene of the accident and dont face prosecution , I just wondered why people focus on this particular case
