Money in the bank after extension of stay based on marriage.

Featured Replies

Hello.

I would like to know if I can use some of the 400k in the bank after my extension for stay based on marriage has been issued. Are there any conditions stating the money must be left in the bank for a certain time.

Thank you.

The only requirement after you have applied for an extension based upon marriage at some offices is to keep the 400k baht in the bank until your extension stamp is done after the under consideration period.

After you get the stamp you can do whatever you want to with the 400k baht until 2 months before your next application.

I thought had to keep money in bank for 3 months after. Or does this only apply to retirement extentions?

Keeping at least 800K on your personal thai bank-account is only required for 1-year extensions of stay based on your original Non Imm O or O-A Visa for reason of retirement.

And still you had to post an answer?

There is no requirement to keep any of the 400,000 in the bank after application has been accepted.

There are a few rogue offices that want the 400k to be there until the application has been approved by head office.

He confirmed UJ's answer to the OP based on marriage, but added additional information.

It makes the OP more assured when others give the same answer.

You are correct, that the "official rules" say nothing about having to keep the money in the bank during the "under consideration" period - but the "rogue offices" who illegally require this include the main office for the country at Chiang Wattana, Bangkok.  The rot goes all the way to the top.

It is wise to keep the 400K on your personal thai bank account until after the 'under consideration' period and you got the approval stamp of your application for the 1-year extension for reason of marriage.  Once you have that approval stamp you can use the funds as you please.  And you only need to top up again to 400K 2 months before your next application.
