New Gardening in Thailand Book

Featured Replies

There is a new and very good English language book covering gardening in Thailand. It will finally replace my old Gardening in Bangkok by the late Pimsai Amranand which was first published in 1970. Its title is The Tropic Gardener  and is by Dr. Patrick Campbell, a retired Englishman and gardener living in Phuket. It has 359 pages and 200 plus colour photos. It costs 995 baht but I think it's worth it both for gardening tips and the range of plants covered. It includes many of the new imported plants now becoming common in local gardens and nurseries.

It doesn't seem to be available at Asia Books or Kinokuniya so far. I will try and get some to put on my www.dco.co.th website if anyone wants one inside Thailand.

Thanks for posting.  And with Rangoon Creeper flowers on the cover its off to a good start.

Too bad the mods don't see fit to pin a plant resources subject. I've given up on posting and reviewing horticulture books and resources, never any discussion or feedback. This is primarily the dog and snake forum. Farming in Thailand and the Organic subforum is more about a wide range of horticulture subjects, as well as agriculture.

Here I have a very large 1973 Australia and New Zealand Complete Book of Gardening, a 1985 Yates Garden Guide and the original Pimsai book. This new one is certainly going to be my go to book, including for plant ID. I think you are right, we need a gardening forum;-)
