Shooting in Pattaya – Reason Unknown

The Pattaya police were informed of a shooting on Pattaya 3rd Road, near the bridge to Bali Hai Pier at 2.30 am on 22nd April.

The police were told that a gang on about 10 – 12 motorbikes were being chased by Police Volunteers.

About 5 minutes later the police were informed through the radio that the team had lost them around Central Pattaya Road, but they were able to seize a gun and also a wooden club with nails on the end, which had been thrown onto the road.

The police questioned Mr. Wanchai Kaewdee, aged 20, who had been attacked by the gang. He stated that earlier he and his friends went to Bali Hai Pier on 6 motorbikes as they wanted to drink there. However, at the pier they were confronted by a gang of around 25 men.

He and his friends thought that it didn’t look good so turned around and left but the group followed them and started shooting at them. They don’t know those people so they don’t know the reason why they were fired on?

The police recorded the statements and are still searching for the suspects.

they really have to get a grip on these little gang-bangers racing around town all night long on their motorbikes high on yah-bah. impose a curfew or something. and where do they get their money to finance their lifestyle? stealing from tourists. let's start addressing the real problems. :o

Might help if the police actually started working during the dark hours instead of moonlighting as security guys in bars. But maybe thats too simple an explanation :o

As an aside, you really do wonder what the police are up to in Pattaya at times - The Bali Hai area "should" be under 24hr CCTV coverage given its the centre for almost any and every event that takes place in Pattaya, however I suspect the reality is that the only people who are required to have CCTV cameras are bars that control their own security function and to all intents and purposes do it pretty well - after all, when was the last time, you heard of gold snatching in a gogo or disco in Pattaya?

Really makes me wonder why I hardly ever venture over Sukhumvit these days when I come down from Bangkok at weekends.

I am waiting for the day that they say they know who was shooting and why!
