Thailand's immigration chief Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang - known as Bid Oud - has issued urgent orders to keep Thailand's borders secure after cases of Cambodian monks sneaking across came to light.

Naew Na reported that the Cambodians were genuine monks but had formed a gang to cross over into Thailand illegally in Sa Kaeo province.

They said that the pickings were better for monks in Thailand as the Thais were more generous in their alms giving.

On July 11th 11 monks were picked up in a deserted and overgrown area near Suvarnabhumi Airport in Samut Prakan.

This led to further investigations which in turn led to a deserted housing project in Samut Prakan where five Cambodian monks were staying.

When officers of Region 3 immigration arrived on Tuesday the monks ran off but were soon rounded up and arrested.

Monks' robes, alms bowls and donations were taken into evidence.

They would go out on their "binthabat" (alms collection) rounds early in the morning then relax during the day. They were not studying the "dhamma" or Buddhist scriptures.

When they got money they would sneak back to Cambodia then return when it ran out. They used phones to communicate.

The monks had crossed via a natural border then boarded a van to Mo Chit and taxis to Samut Prakan.

An infographic suggested that six monks were also arrested in Pranburi, Prajuab Khiri Khan.

Lt-Gen Sompong issued orders to keep Thailand's borders secure in the wake of the cases amid fears that such activity could result in the spread of Covid-19, reported the media.

Shocking, flog them first before deporting them, imagine monks coming over the border for richer pickings.????

There i was thinking monks didnt care about money, only lived on food donations given by the people.

Some monk-ey business there. It just doesn't sound pure and wholesome.

Big odious is back with more vinyl than you can point a stick at chasing and defrocking everything in sight ????

Those leaky borders...

Fake monks.  Cambodians dressed as monks.
This time of year actual Theravada monks stay at an actual Buddhist monastery for the duration of Buddhist Lent (Rain Retreats) from July 6 to October 2.  They don't leave their monasteries no less go border hopping for better alms which would be the antithesis of Theravada Buddhism.
Scam artists and con artists giving Buddhism a bad name.
