Everyone must help prevent second wave of Covid-19 infections: virologist

Dr Yong Poovorawan, an expert virologist at Chulalongkorn University

 

In a Facebook post on Friday (July 31), virologist Dr Yong Poovorawan called on people to work together in preventing a second wave of Covid-19 infections.

 

The expert from Chulalongkorn University said a second wave of infections has emerged in several Asian countries like Hong Kong, Vietnam and China, while the Philippines, Indonesia and Japan are getting up to 1,000 new Covid-19 cases daily.

 

“Until a vaccine or medicine is found, we have to do our best to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in Thailand,” he said, adding that as more people are returning to normal life, the number of children and adults with respiratory complaints is increasing.

 

“If a second wave emerges, medical personnel will have to conduct Covid-19 tests on these patients as well,” he said. “This is why, we must all help each other so we can lead normal lives.”

Until there's a vaccine there's going to be second, third and fourth waves............unfortunately.

Many people already lax failing to follow the simple recommendations related to masks, sanitizer, distancing etc.

And yeah...the cases went up again in China, Japan, Hongkong, Australia. But the big difference is that all those countries ACCEPTED that and got used to live along with the virus. Moreover they are not as heavily dependent on tourism as Thailand is.

 

That guy with his stylish hair cut sits in his ivory tower and surely won`t get an financial problems, even if Thailand would stay locked until 2022. Meanwhile, the majority of Thai people got salary cuts or lost their jobs at all.

Proud to be number 1 country in the world to contain the virus. Proud to have 0 local cases for over 2 months. Good for them, but let`s see what economic price Thailand will have to pay for that strategy!

There are no 'second waves' - they are first waves in countries which suppressed the virus when it 'emerged'.

 

It will get you in the end unless the entire country stays shut until everyone is vaccinated.
