Kanit Sangsubhan

The Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Office of Thailand has recently called on Thai embassies in 30 countries to approach foreign firms to invest in the EEC, the office’s secretary-general Kanit Sangsubhan said.

He said the EEC’s main targets are firms in technology, logistics, medical and health sectors, adding that in France, EEC has been eyeing aviation firms, while in the US it is wooing logistic companies.

He added that the office will propose to the Cabinet this month a plan to develop a 2,000 to 3,000-rai smart city in the region to accommodate the million or so people expected to migrate to the EEC in the next 20 years.

So. whilst countries are bringing home a lot of their production from abroad due to covid, Thailand is out with the begging bowl ?  They've gone, their going and they wont be back for a long, long time , get used to it and adjust your crazy financial forecasts appropriately

What will they tempt these businesses with?

Poor infrastructure? (Power, water...)

Untrained workforce?

Clean beaches?

Quality roads and drivers?

Consistent immigration policies?

Petty bureaucracy at all levels?

Stable government?

Honest and consistent policing and judicial system?

Like an old worned out toothless women Thailand is trying to "woo" younger and more vigorous suitors, well, good luck with that...

SMART CITY = PRISON CITY. Agenda 21/Agenda 2030

the 1st thing investors would like to do is to be able to come and go relatively easyily, with a covid test from their own country and tested on arrival, staying in their accommodation till they pass neg and then on their way,you dont get it with just about everything.why is that?your racist pricing policy, guess what it turns people off?ditto immo ditto long term visas corruption, feudal judiciary,a 3rd class work force that appallingly educated.presently a  lot of companies are leaving china but you no want to model yourselves on them ,going back into the feudal authoritarian mode so go get big brother to buy it all and he will own you lock stock and uncle, figure it out a 5 yr old could.production is going home to western countries and japan/s kor to a small extent but going elsewhere big time.welcome people and maybe a chance but people and companies have your range now and this aint the only game in town.latam eastern europe and vietnam etc is a much better bet,

Honestly good luck with that, but I feel it would be easier to <deleted> into a hurriycan and not get you feet wet. All countries have seen massive economic contractions and job losses so will most likely be focused on domestic rather than foreign investments.

With the Thai work ethic, education skills, well run govt, and ability to learn Im sure theyll  just be queuing  up????

There are already industrial parks in Thailand.   Why is this one so special?  If they had labor laws that were more like Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam, Thailand may appeal to some.  It doesn't.  It looks to be an army project that benefits the army only.

Flooding! (keeps the industrial parks clean)

Yeah gotta keep that foreign money flowing in.

Get your domestic mess of gigantic proportions in order first, then talk.

Who would invest in a country with a totally biased legal system (see Vorayuth Red Bull and the likes)?

A labour department, hardly speaking English, making work permits a serious uphill battle just to please those superiority-complex-driven civil clowns who hardly speak a word of English despite dealing ONLY with non-Thais.

Inability to find low skilled labour with basic loyalty and reliability to show up for work after payday.

A over-the-top-high local currency and a government changing its directions on almost hourly basis?

Who would invest in a country where "investors" are called "dirty farang", "khaek", "check" and similarly derogatory words and everything is pro-Thai and anti-nonThais?

As said, get the basics right and we'll look again in a few years. Meanwhile money flows everywhere - except Thailand.

investors will invest if a quick buck is to be made, no care for who will slave for it

I heard a woo-ing noise last night - didn't think much about it as I thought it was probably an owl but now it seems it could have been the local Thai ambassador trying to drum up some business...
