Hello

My wife has a settlement visa, and is going to book a flight to the UK.

If she buys this one-way, would she be asked for anything (proof of funds, other docs) by the airline - in advance or at check-in, or even be refused boarding? And does this depend on the airline? Also at UK immigration, should she have any of the docs she used to apply for the visa, or proof of funds, to hand?

Anyone had any first-hand experience of this?

Thanks for your help

The airline has to satisfy itself of the passenger's admissibility to the UK, and possession of a visa is sufficient for the airline to avoid being penalised, so a one-way ticket is fine. Your wife can only be refused entry to the UK in very limited circumstances, so there's no need to carry the documents unless she wishes. She may be well advised to put the TB certificate, though, in her hand luggage in case she's referred to the doctor at the airport. Should there be any problem, the Immigration Service would contact you.

Scouse.

Is she travelling alone, or are you going back with her?

If alone, it might help if she has your name and address to hand also your mobile number so that she can contact you on arrival if the questions get a little sticky!

Good Luck

Last year my wife (and I) arrived in the UK on a settlement visa, but didn't have her TB certificate with her. She had to go to the airport doctor and have another test before immigration would clear her to enter (free test), so make sure you have the certificate!

Below is a copy of e mail isent to UKvisas and there reply as you can see as long as visa is valid no problem.........However when we got to the airport China Airlines refused to let her board, i showed them this e mail and they went away and had a chat. after a nervous 15 minutes or so they came back and issued a ticket. 5 minutes before boarding we were called out and i had to sign to say if she was refused entry i would pay the airfare back. without this e mail she would not have been allowed to fly.

There is no reason why she should not enter the UK on a one-way ticket. I note that she already has her visa and presume it remains her intention to leave the UK within the validity of that visa,
