Heavy to very heavy rains are likely in the North, the Northeast, the Central and the East regions on Sunday, the Thailand Meteorological Department has forecast.

It urged people to beware of the severe conditions that may cause flash flood and water runoff.

An active monsoon trough lies across the North and the upper Northeast while the southwest monsoon prevails across the Andaman Sea and Thailand, the department said.

The affected areas are:

North: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok, Sukhothai, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit and Phetchabun.

Northeast: Loei, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Chaiyaphum

and Khon Kaen.

Central: Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Kanchanaburi and Ratchaburi.

East: Sa Kaeo, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat.

My district in Uttaradit had flash flooding overnight on Friday with some homes getting almost 5 feet of water inside their homes ,  fortunately my house is on higher ground and the water only to the front gate . We lost water and power for around 10 hours as the water slowly receded and it could all be restored .

Plenty of room in the reservoirs in the North East to accommodate the run off, the largest reservoir - UdonRat remains at historical low, despite all the 'promises"

Flash-floods have and will always happen here, natural occurrence necessary to sustain water for the quickly approaching dry season.

Tip of the day:- Build on high land
