Sean Connery in 2003 flop ‘The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen’ (Rex Features)

Sean Connery – arguably the greatest ever James Bond – has turned 90.

The Scottish actor has an impressive list of credits to his name, including The Man Who Would be King – in which he starred alongside Michael Caine – Brian De Palma’s The Untouchables and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Despite a voice role in the 2012 animated film Sir Billi, the Oscar winner has been absent from the screen since 2003.

With a career spanning seven decades, the actor retired from films while he undoubtedly still had some terrific performances left to give.

Oh really?

Many actors over 75 are still working.  DeNiro, Douglass, Pacino and many more.

Why?  When they offer you 10 million dollars for 3 months work it is difficult to pass up.

I'm not sure actors of this age do it for the money. What's the point of being the richest man in the graveyard?

Exactly, he worked hard to get to the top and wanted to get out while he was still there, and enjoy the spoils of a lifetimes work.

The had brains as well as acting skills.

Especially if you have as much money as Sir Sean undoubtedly does. He deserves to enjoy his sunset years. Zardoz!

Sean Connery played Sean Connery in all his films, same same every role.

No one is gonna cast a 90 year old Sean Connery!

Sensible to retire and enjoy his fortune.

No he didn't. I recently watched Darby O'Gill and the little people ( 1959 ), and he wasn't anything like Bond- he didn't bed a single girl, drink, or shoot anyone. However, his sex appeal was very apparent, so not surprising he was chosen to be Bond.

Yeah, he should be making garbage movies like Nick Cage and Bruce Willis ....... just because they pay him.

Notoriously stingy character, and one dimensional actor.

Yes, but most old 75+ men actors seem to marry 28 year old women and have children so are probably working to keep up the school, nail bar and viagra payments

But, doesn't the actor who dies with the most toys win???

I saw pictures of Sean Connery a few years back.  He looked old, frail and weak.  While I'm sure he was healthy for a man of his age, who wants to see their film hero looking like that?

I want to remember him as James Bond, Juan Sanchez-Villalobos Ramirez/Highlander, and as Zed/Zardoz giving young Charlotte Rampling a good rodgering!

Agreed. The last Die Hard movie was garbage. He wasn't even trying.

However Willis did make many quite quirky movies like Looper, but ruined a worthy career with the attrocious Death Wish remake.

However, I've never seen such bad movies made by an actor that can act as Cage made. Bangkok Dangerous was about as bad as it could be.

Connery had more sex appeal in his little finger than any modern actor I've seen has in their entire body.

Watched recently "The Hill" a 1965 movie in which is stared, while he was on vacation from being Bond. Lot of charisma, a great actor indeed. And the film is still very watchable, not old-fashioned at all. https://www.wikiwand.com/en/The_Hill_(film)

Let's just say that they haven't all been blessed with making the wise investments during their prime earning years. I mean how many 16 bathroom hillside homes in Santa Barbara does one really need?
