Thailand has topped the list of the world’s safest destinations to visit during the Covid-19 pandemic, according to a study by Germany-based travel company Tourane.

This news will also be welcomed by the Thai golf industry, who are hopefully that golf vacationers will return.

Thailand was considered the world’s safest travel destination during the Covid-19 pandemic based on various criteria including the 14-day notification rate of new Covid-19 cases and deaths per the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), International Health Regulations score, population density of the country, hours of sunshine per day for outdoor activities, and flight connections with Germany.

Thailand recorded a low number of Covid-19 cases and was scored 85 for International Health Regulations. These coupled with moderate population density, at 135, and the hours of sunshine per day for outdoor activities, 6.6 hours, plus having the most number of direct flights with Germany have placed Thailand in the top spot.

Tourlane’s study was carried out on 26 July, 2020.

As of today, Thailand has reported no new local Covid-19 cases for 86 days. So far, the Kingdom recorded a total of 3,382 Covid-19 cases, with 58 deaths.

Tourlane’s rating has added to recent accolades for Thailand during this time of difficulty. In late July, 2020, Thailand has ranked number one in the world out of 184 countries for its ongoing Covid-19 recovery effort, according to the Global Covid-19 Index (GCI).

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to remind all travellers that Thailand’s international airports and borders remain closed to international tourists for the time being.

However, Thailand is ready to welcome back tourists again once the Covid-19 situation has improved.

This is so great that it is a safe destination.  It is so safe that few flights are scheduled to arrive, if you do arrive only native thai's and a few others are allowed in, they must be tested prior to getting on the flight, and of course upon arrival you and your clubs will be in quarantine for 14 days but only if you plan to stay in Phuket.  Such great news.

Unless you get hit by a golf ball hit off the tee by some idiot who can't wait (or WON'T wait) for you to get out of range. What idiot picked this picture?

To be the world's safest destination, Thailand needs to become a destination yet again first!

Have you ever played this course?

I had to look twice when I first saw it but it is the 18th and you would have to be a very long hitter (and normally into the wind) to reach where the cart is.

Agree not the best choice of picture.

According to a lady in the local health food shop, Chiang Rai province now has ZERO active cases of COVID-19. The nine cases previously listed have all recovered.

The position of the guy's follow-through is an indicator of how far he has hit the ball. My guess would be 200 yards max.

How would they know? They could not enter the country.

It's simply unbelievable what happens here: Only because a lousy little travel agency at the other side of the planet called Tourane names their advertisment campagne a "study", many seem to believe their is some scientic background in this "study". No it is not. Why are people so gullible? It is simply advertising!

And by the way, currently Thailand is not a travel destination either. And also it is not safe at all. Only one thing is sure: This so called "study" is pure BS, from A to Z.

Thailand golf organizations should get on board and offer courses with lodging to be added to the acceptable quarantine sites and give tourists some flexibility in staying at these golf resort for 14 days and playing golf as often as they like .  I find there is no problem social distancing on the golf course with the few modifications that have been implemented.

Thailand is very safe and that has been confirmed to me by people on the ground in Pattaya, Bangkok and the village. A close family friend is a nurse in the village and has seen no evidence of patients with Covid-19 .  i am in constant contact through Line , Skype and Messenger  and from what i hear and see I should have just stayed in Thailand .

Good concept....I would think most of us would be prepared to quarantine at a hotel with course. Problems start though when you book a tee time and there is a hold up on the first tee....also could not play with a caddie until quarantine is over.
