I don't think they fit in those small/mid sized washing machines, do they? Any other options that don't involve hand washing and clothesline drying?

Well, not sure where you live, but near my house, there are at least 3 professional laundries that have 12-15kg washing machines and dryers that will do the job for little money..

    Do a google maps search for Otteri, they are a chain of laundries, have 10kg, 13kg and 17kg machines, also dryers there
