Hello All....I am in need of a Abdominal CT Scan. Have any of you good people had one in Chiang Mai? ...Price? ...Experience?

 

I have one quotation so far from Bangkok Hospital and 29,500Baht seems expensive.

An abdominal CT will need contrast media which adds to the cost. It also presents some risks for which reason it should only be done in a hospital. I would therefore not recommend a stand alone imaging center though these are considerably less expensive.

 

I therefore suggest you try a different hospital, provided you can find a suitable doctor. Chiang Mai Ram or McCormick Hospitals for example should cost less than Bangkok Hosp.  You will however need to consult a relevant specialist first so consider that cost as well, once it is figured in you will probably still save but not as much.

Chiang Mai Ram - they seemed to know what they were doing and had the good equipment (in 2016).

I have consulted a specialist in Bangkok Hospital already so hopefully that consultation will be accepted in another hospital?

You will likely have to have ordered by a doctor in hospital but he can base need on paperwork you currently have - consultations are not expensive in any case - it is tests and procedures that do cost.  Take any test results with you.  Bangkok Hospital should be able to provide doctors paperwork as well as test results but may take a couple days to copy.

You cannot just go to another hospital and get the CT scan, you will have to consult one of their doctors to order it. Bring all your records with you as suggested by Lopburi3 above.

 

Before going to this trouble you might like to call and find out what the cost of CT there is, be sure to specify abdominal CT with contrast. If the cost difference is not large it may not be worth it....unless you want a second opinion on the need for the scan anyhow.

As said CT scans are not exactly cheap.  The last one I had was in December last year and total bill was 38k.  That included chest so about 9k added for that and blood tests totaled about 4k (cancer treatment so you may not need those).  This was in Bangkok at a top/second tier price hospital.

Thank you all for your help with this, I will now take on this advice and move on this week.
