  • Noooooo! ???? However will they defend the motherland now???

  • The Chinese should just give a sub for free, considering the economic damage the Chinese virus has inflicted.

  • Here's a thought. We all know the only reason for proposed sub purchase is to facilitate commissions or under the table payments. Why not allocate a few, several, million baht for said commissions ? S

Navy chief of staff Admiral Sittiporn Maskasem, who joined the emergency situation committee’s meeting, did not reveal any information to the media and went into the Office of the National Security Council.

Where he banged on the table and demanded that the loyalty of the Navy was not to be taken for granted.

At this point the rest of the Junta pointed out that the existing fleet was not much of a threat...

I imagine the operating manuals are either in Chinese or bad English, with three assembly diagrams that don't make any sense.

Mate, their not buying them from Ikea!

The Mark 6  would make a great dive boat....without the guns...or maybe just the one on the foredeck and a large sun awning.

You mean they want to practice sinking their own subs???  :cheesy:

Just wait till the day some Lt. Somchai forgets to put the mock torpedoes or mock depth charges in the launch tubes...

I just hadn't imagined it as an Ikea self-assembly type product.

Don't you get your money back from Ikea if the product doesn't work?

If Thailand wants to purchase something useful then buy torpedo mega fast patrol, missile --machine guns.  defense intercept.

Just add the torpedoes.

It's Amazing  how social media has transformed the World and even Thailand. Everyone freaks out if they dare say the wrong thing especially Governments. Some for the good but not always .....

no  problem, Thais  have very short memory spans.

He has a gold mine to pay for first before any much needed subs ????

Thailand needs a better education, better government officials, better engineers, better beer, better wine, better people without losing their face over nothing, mechanics who know that the engine isn't part of the solar system, teachers, who know their subjects and do not hit students, or molest them.

A Ministry of Education with people who have a healthy knowledge on that topic, farmers with a much better income and education.

Thais with a mindset that foreigners do not come to Thailand because they can't get a job, or a woman elsewhere.

They need a lot more better educated doctors who are able to do emergency operations, also on weekends, but with a positive outcome.

Cops who do their work and less dead riders of motorbikes, people who know that a helmet is for protection of the brain, Immigration officers who can differentiate between a criminal and an ex-pat, pilots who understand English well enough to fly international routes, mechanics who know how to fix things and not just make it run again for a day, or two.

The list could go on and on for ages.

But what they NOT need are freaking submarines.

I've never had a quality item from China.

A submarine from China would only be an expensive coffin.

And the General as the commander!

I just hope the negative optics continue thru next year, when they try to fund it again.

This is bad news for Mercedes dealers.

I should bloody think so, now spend that money on the Thai people who need it.

Have to be sorry for admirals retiring in October who were not able to add to their retirement fund.

Thailand will need to eventually acquire the other two submarines if it intends to build an operational capability. One sub might do for training, but a minimum of 3 is needed to keep one on operational patrol. The other two will be in dock for maintenance, repairs, upgrades etc.

I always assumed a key reason to acquire subs is so Thailand can develop a credible anti-submarine warfare capability. If there is a threat from other submarines, then Thailand needs to be able to defend its marine assets against that threat. To develop anti-sub warfare Thailand needs its own subs to practice with.

Please tell what other nation is going to attack Thailand with submarines?

Or you have some inside knowledge of an imminent attack up the Chao Phraya?

I won’t even buy goggle « Made in China »

Thailand is reliant on exports by sea, has offshore oil rigs, and extensive maritime interests. All of its neighbours have submarines. Of course it needs an anti-submarine warfare capability. The military would be negligent if it didn't develop this. It is not something you can buy off the shelf if a threat develops. It needs at least 10 years to develop and maintain a credible capability.

Thailand is in bed with the biggest threat... China.

And if one sailed up to any Thai interest in the ocean Thailand would turn and run, then try to diplomatically talk around any issue of conflict.

It does not need submarines end of story...

now go iron your trousers you'll be late for parade !

Hope they all hop on it and die sinking with it! That'd be the best outcome!

Exactly what I was thinking; or considering the estimated cost(s) of the submarine(s) maybe Ferraris lose?

Yes sir! I bow to your superior strategic knowledge about what Thailand needs and doesn't need.

what next sending a man to mars ? i wouldnt put it past them

They already have laid the keels of the submarines. They are still being constructed. Payment unchanged, still next year.

did somebody just came to some sense, that's a first... now let's see if China doesn't ask for (lack of sale/delivery) compensation

It wont be posponed. Prayut will have discussed it with his Chinese masters to pay later to save some face. Behind the scene nothing will have changed.

Just more smoke and mirrors

If the Japanese tried invading again and saw the above, they'd be on their knees in no time - doubled up laughing.
