Cockle farmers from Surat Thani’s Bandon Bay protesting at the Thai Maritime Enforcement Command Centre 2 dispersed after sending their representative up to the office to negotiate.

They were protesting against the command centre’s actions, which they say have made it easier for illegal fishing boats to enter the bay and damage wooden structures put up in the water to raise cockles.

The command centre, however, said these structures will be removed on Tuesday (September 1) because they occupy public area.

The farmers, however, can file an appeal. The centre has also promised to arrest every illegal fishing boat the enters the area.
