The body of Kaing Guek Eav better known as “Comrade Duch”, former chief of the Khmer Rouge S-21 prison, was cremated at a pagoda in Phnom Penh without much ado after hehad passed away shortly after midnight yesterday. Khmer Rouge Tribunal spokesman Neth Pheaktra said Duch, the former director of the S-21 interrogation centre in Phnom Penh’s Tuol Sleng, passed away aged 78 due to illness at 12.51 am yesterday at the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital.

According to a death certificate issued by a doctor who treated him, Duch died from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It noted that Duch was brought to the hospital on Monday. He fell seriously ill at about 4 pm on Monday in the Kandal provincial prison where he was serving a life sentence after becoming the first Khmer Rouge official to be found guilty by the Khmer Rouge tribunal of crimes against humanity in 2010.

A Kandal provincial court statement issued yesterday said he died while he was in prison, Duch had been seriously ill since 2018, resulting in him being sent for treatment outside the prison on four occasions. The first and second in 2018 after he reportedly suffered from “fatigue” and “kidney blockage”.

More than good riddance; so there is only the Khmer Rouge's only president left - Khieu Samphan - looking forward to his notification of death. He's 89, sitting in jail and hopefully will end in hell like all his cronies.

In that context one could of course also throw Nixon (who's gone) and Kissinger in front of the world tribunal; those two were directly responsible for the systematic destruction of Cambodia.

They, together with the puppet Lon Lon - who got installed by them in 1970 - left in 1975 the biggest post WW2 power vacuum behind. The whole world was watching, the Chinese were supporting and Kissinger was happy the Indochina mess - for which he accepted the peace nobel prize in 1973 - was finally over.

The only one showing remorse was the last US Ambassador prior to the collapse, John Gunther Dean (born Günther Dienstfertig) - one of America's finest diplomats ever; declared lateron even as "insane" for speaking the truth (on Israel's involvement in ridding Pakistan of Zia-ul-Haq in 1988) - all the others involved in the genocide of Cambodia did not have the spine to face the truth nor any regret of remorse ........
