Pattaya: Thai media reports a busy long weekend but posters fear reality come Tuesday

Siam Chon News painted a rosy picture of the long holiday weekend in Pattaya saying the resort was busy with Thai tourists and even foreigners. But posters on their story painted a more realistic assessment. 

 

The media reported from Walking Street and Beach Road on Saturday saying that the sands were lively with Thais taking their relatives out to eat on mats. 

 

There was a long traffic jam on Beach Road.

 

In Walking Street they said that traders were smiling again as Thais and foreigners stopped by for a drink.

All the establishments were following the Covid-19 protocols. 

 

A more realistic assessment came from Thai posters on the story. While many said it was good that Pattaya was busy for a few days many believed it would be fleeting. 

 

"Pey Pepey" noted: "It'll be lively for four days only. Then it'll be back to being deserted again".

"Sutita Aurasri" disputed the claim that domestic tourists would really help the clubs: "Thais won't help the bar, club and massage scene. They don't go in", she noted.

Just take a drive/walk  along second road and see  most everything closed,beach road is a little better more places open but not very busy.

I went to the Avenue cinema on Saturday and Sunday  5 people to see the Thai language Tenet   11 people for the English language version,  Mulan  was slightly better attended.

The Bowling Alley closed,food court closed.

The traffic on Sukhumvit was heavy  but actually in town was quite light  I suspect a lot the Bangkokians are now gravitating more towards Jomtien and further south

possibly scared of the dirty foreign Covid Zombies infesting Pattaya city center ????

Thai tourism sounds like an oxymoron to me. All that is happening is that a 100Bht note is going to move from one square to another, on the the draughts table that is Thailand ????

And I bet not too many popped in to one of the GoGos and had a small local beer for 180.

Mat sounds a bit dodgy given the rats who wee everywhere on the beach .. getting sand in your salad don't do it for moi ..

The Avenue was never very busy even before Corona. And the food court there was always pretty empty. I am still waiting that this Indian investor transforms this place into a Naan Plaza full with bars as promised - or was the name Nana Plaza? The opening should have been end of the March. Or was this just fake news?

Might soon be the last beer bar on beach road surviving. Maybe it'll make UNESCO list, then Thais will visit for selfies.

Such a  sad read .

Not only sad that a significant area that previously provided/supported  massive  employment and income now tenuously struggles to survive a global impact but more so in that there are so many on TVF  who seem to  find some form of gratuitous  delight in the  fact !

Yes, but it is hard to shed tears for the beer store charging 950 for a box of heineken yai, when almost every other retailer in the country was charging 799-810.  Or the mediocre noodle soup places, with the recon moo wasn't charging 70, when it is 35-40 in the best parts of BKK.

A rather silly and inaccurate last comment. Time to move on methinks either from the memory the politician's ill informed comment or leave this country if people are so easily hurt. The Thais have real political grievances not just some endless victim hood caused by a hurtful comment.

That's the reality, and that makes up for the highest percentage of Pattaya's streets.
