Thailand’s Deputy Finance Minister’s educational credentials questioned

Deputy Finance Minister Santi Prompat

The educational credentials of Deputy Finance Minister Santi Prompat have re-emerged as an issue of public interest after he implied that he is qualified to become the new Finance Minister, replacing Mr. Pridi Daochai who resigned over a week ago.

Mr. Tortrakul Bunnag, President of the Engineering Association of Thailand, said in his Facebook post that a clarification was required from Associate Professor Kim Chaisaensook, Rector of Ramkhamhaeng University, about whether Mr. Santi was dismissed from the university.

In response to the speech in Parliament by Democrat MP Vinai Sompong in 2008, claiming that Mr. Santi was dismissed over alleged exam cheating, the Professor admitted that Mr. Santi was caught cheating in 1999 when he hired Mr. Somyot Meesawat to sit in the exam on his behalf.

He is obviously not right for a job in this government. The reason is not that he cheated, but that he was stupid enough to get caught. I am sure they only want good cheats at the top!

He has perfect knowledge of the 10 for me one for you principal the bedrock of this military unelected government and will fit in nicely  for sure????

His lack of formal education and propensity for corruption should help him succeed in this democratically elected/selected government...

He is the quintessential Thai government official...IMHO.

Richard

It boggles the mind how these high ranking authorities attain the levels they have all based on a lie.A whopper at that!

Having said that, a relative of my wife's got an adult degree so she could get a gov't job.Upon discovery that an MBA paid more she promptly obtained one of those...lol TIT?

That doesn,t bode too well for the future ?

He's currently the deputy Education minster - is he qualified for that In this case he's a candidate for

that position - reality is that the holder of the minister and deputy ed. minster do need advanced study, and qualifications incl. relevant experience, even philosophical education/qualification.

How he sees himself as Finance Minister, a position which needs multiple aligned degrees and vast high level experience, but now he's accused of paying someone to sit for the final exam (maybe more exams??) but the exam was for an engineering degree.

Only things missing to make him solidly qualified for the finance minister position:

1. Involvement is buying/selling drugs.

2. Jail time in another country.

Never mind, no doubt someone can quickly set up some fake certificates/documents to prove 1. and 2. above.

Everyone knows that when you’re a boss of some sort in Thailand then you by default know everything about everything.

Anyhoo, this is all moot as Santi is very hansum.

Give him the job, at least it'll give the drug smuggler and watchman a bit of company.

Although: in all fairness, the less exposure to the Thai education system, the better qualified he should be.

Why all the fuss about Santis qualifications?

The whole crowd of them are not qualified, they are only there do to cheating.

He really loves the country, so he's qualified enough.

  • Popular Post

Now with that nice looking face who could believe that he would be involved in a cheating scandal, not be a really nice guy and not up to par to do a job like taking care of the Thai people's money. I believe he first worked for Yingling. Must have some power to him.

So many people obtain degrees and never attend a lecture hall...they simply pay someone to do the course for them.

But, they go to the graduation ceremony, sit in their position and receive their diploma from a royal....no guilt or embarrassment.

Lecturers, recognise different students collecting degrees, but say nothing...complicit in the fraud

So this guy is the drug minister, then the fact that its all a misunderstanding and a name switchup holds even less credibility. God what bad group of people that are in charge. Its so anoying when liars and cheats get in positions of power.

Even worse that almost all parties have them (former FFP excluded).

It appears has no qualifications so they are not in question he is not qualified, but that does not stop the rest of them  ???? I see the Uni claim it was all a misunderstanding over somebody with almost the same name, that old misunderstanding again

Is'nt the whole govt guilty by association?

Apparently, the international currency traders approve wholeheartedly.  Look how the mighty Baht thrashed the Euro, the USD and the Pound today.

Finance Minister? Just give it to Prawit. He will move the country forward in his sleep.

Quick get the A4 sized envelope stuffed full, lets throw in a few of lil fatties watches and give them to the good professor to make him go away.  If not well cement boots might work.....

Can this lot sink any lower? Everyone knows they're rotten to the core, but unfortunately, there are still a few goons (including one on here) who insist that Prayut is clean as a whistle; therefore, the rest of them can't really do much harm. Just blind ignorance to say this 'cos you won't admit you were badly wrong.

Sad when you treat politics and politicians like they're your sports team.

Once a cheat always a cheat, although i think he knows how to add or subtract 35%

Maybe this chap should be Education Minister?

A cheater, huh? I am not at all surprised that he is gracing this government now. He seems perfectly suited.

That reminds me of a former prime minister whose academic credentials were put into serious question when it came to light that his master degree thesis had been written in French. The man could not even utter a word in English.

It was of no consequence, though. The matter was simply swept under the carpet. His thesis could just as well have been written in Swahili or Icelandic and it still would've been alright.

Meanwhile, the ex-PM in question reportedly greeted Queen Elizabeth II at the airport with the memorable line, "Welcome to Thailand, Queen Elizabeth Taylor." A phrase he probably spent weeks to memorize. Perhaps he should've greeted her in French instead, because that language appeared to roll off his tongue quite easily.
