They claim they have paid 15,000 baht each to a visa agent but have been waiting for nearly a year for a visa. In addition they allege that they have to pay 250 baht a month out of their salary for police "tea money" as they don't have the paperwork. The furious workers met a deputy at the station Pol Lt-Col Manoon Charoensri who made a point of excluding the press saying that "there is nothing to see here". A representative of the visa agents was summoned but the name of their company and the company where the workers are employed was not revealed. All the visa agent would do was mumble about Covid-19 and border closures making the issuance of visas impossible. Chuan, representing the workers, said most of them had been in Thailand for years and had paid 15,000 baht (or 18,000 baht in some cases) to extend their visas nearly a year ago. But they still had not got the stamp. Every time pay day comes around, he said that each employee has 250 baht docked from their salary "as a payment to police" because their visa had not yet been renewed. The police told the protesters to go home after doing nothing for them, said the media who noted that the Cambodians dispersed in an unhappy mood. Can you imagine the protests outside the immigration office in 2 weeks from now, foreigners on overstay demanding why they still don’t have their visas yet ? This is going to be fun. Hahaha !!
