3 killed, 28 injured in bus crash

SINGBURI:-- Three people were killed and at least 28 others injured when a tour bus routing from Lampang to Bangkok hit a trailer in Sing Buri Saturday morning.

The double-decker of Wiriya tour ran into the 18-wheeled trailer at the In Buri district at around 4 a.m., police said.

It took about two hours for a rescue unit to get passengers out of the damaged bus. The injured were rushed to Sing Buri and In Buri hospital.

Among the deceased were the 32-year-old bus driver, Sayan Jitipana, and the 39-year-old second driver, Chuchart Kimaporn.

In Buri police suspected that the accident might happen because the driver dozed off during driving.

After the recent bus crashes and promises for tighter measures against bus companies, the Chonburi blue buses had slowed down to 90-100 kph on the elevated expressway.

A few weeks have gone by and they're back to their usual speeds, 120-130 kph. Whether their suspension is shot on one side and the weight of passengers and luggage is unevenly distributed doesn't seem to be a concern with some of the buses leaning badly to one side, combine that with the frequent high winds up there...

A few weeks ago, a woman driving a truck loaded with interlocking bricks plunged to her death from up there after losing control of the vehicle. Unbelievably, no one was killed down below.

A bus will follow eventually.

The cement barriers on each side are only 80 cm high.
