Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has thanked officials and the protesters for maintaining peace during the weekend rallies, Anucha Buraphachaisri, a spokesman for the Prime Minister's Office, said on Sunday.

The prime minister showed his appreciation for all officials and the people for keeping the situation under control. The staff has given great importance to ensuring the safety of the protesters, Anucha said.

In addition, the authorities and the general public avoided confrontation and provocation, preventing unnecessary tension. He said the government aims to give people the right to full freedom of expression under the Constitution.

"The prime minister wants all Thai people to join hands to overcome the obstacles that we are facing so that we can come out of the crisis together with great success," the spokesman said.

aka:  a speech writer slightly brighter than general Pinocchio has put pen to paper in order to make the great leader look brighter and more likable by getting a civil servant to read out a statement, anybody really think he has any involvement in this kindly go and give your head a wobble and have a quiet word with yourself.....

Sure, as soon as he resigns and the junta appointed senators are fired, life will improve in Thailand.

That “we” are facing? Desperate words from a man who’s clinging on for dear life.

The whole, “we are Thai. Let’s work together” nonsense won’t work anymore. When will the dinosaurs learn? The seal is now well and truly broken.

People know exactly what the elite are up to and how they run things. These things can’t be unlearnt.

If Prayut really wants that to happen, he should ride off into the sunset and not come back.

Give the country a free honest election, and a chance at being a democratic country, without intimidation from anybody.

He and his regime and what he stands for is their plight. If he really cared he would back track, help rebuild the proper way to move forward and then disappear for a good retirement where people in the end might respect him. But he won't and they won't so they all will go down in the public's mind as just what they deserve as a regime protecting the elites who did not care one iota for the normal Thai.

Oh, we all know what a good listener he is. At least you're finally admitting the people's plight.

The next 10 days should be really interesting.

The army will be quietly pleased with how the focus of the anger is shifting away from them towards the top. In the long run, they support what the protesters were demanding at the weekend. It will allow the military to grab even more power.

The general-PM couldn't give a flying fig about the people and their plight. Razor wire and concrete barricades to ward off peaceful protest in a "democracy"? The only people he is prepared to join hands with are his fellow trough-swillers. The clock is ticking down I hope...

No it won't. Not unless some dramatic changes take place to the justice system; the checks and balances system; and the endemic systemic corruption that permeates all levels of society.

All that is left now then is for him to leave his position and he will be thanked .

1. protest leader will be charged (again)

2. exile in cambodia

3. 'disappear' like all the other unwanted

This is Thailand so no chance. Does not matter if it is run by the army or Thaksin it would never be free & honest.

Doubt it's anywhere as simple or straightforward as the magic solution above. It's not like the next lot up for the trough are all that different.

unfortunately it's not going to happen, these type of person don't have the bxlls to resign/quit, reminds me of the guy in Belarus = Alexander Lukashenko

It could be if people /parties weren't treated as a threat to the pigs around the trough and illegally banned to protect said pigs. Poor cha cha hasn't seen thru' the smoke as yet to see he is just a disposable underling soon off on a oneway trip to the abattoirs.

Would it be rude to enquire here as to what happened to the new shiny plaque ? Would the (so called) PM like to comment ?

I'm actually surprised that it's not mentioned anywhere, has anyone asked the demo leaders their thoughts, no I thought not.

Oh well, another non event swept under a very large rug ???? I'm sure we'll hear about it sometime.
