Motorbike Taxi Thief Robs Tourist

Everyone has to be careful of what way they choose to travel - even the convenient and popular motorbike taxis that many people choose as fast transport has become magnets for thieves who are now blending in to cause crime.

In the night of 27th April the Dongtan police were informed of an attack and robbery in Jomtien Soi 9 so quickly rushed over to investigate.

At the scene the police found a Thai lady, Miss Mimee, aged 28 and her Danish boyfriend Mr. Jan Kjorgaarp aged 28, both tourists that travelled to Pattaya from Bangkok that day.

The lady was injured and had a very clear bruise on her neck from being strangled in an attack by a motorbike taxi rider.

She stated that at 11 pm she and her boyfriend got off the bus from Bangkok and were heading for their hotel in Jomtien Soi 9. However at that time of night there was only 1 motorbike taxi at the queue so she called another that drove past and all rode off to their destination.

Reaching Soi 9, she saw her boyfriend going into the soi, but her driver carried straight on past. When she asked he told her that they were taking the shortcut but then a few seconds later he drove into nearby bushes and robbed her. She fought back and he attacked her and strangled her to stop her from screaming. When her boyfriend came looking for her the thief had fled.

The witness, Mr. Jan’s motorbike taxi driver, told the police that the thief was driving a dark blue Honda Wave but he can’t remember the license plate. However, he remembers that the motorbike taxi shirt the thief was wearing was orange and didn’t have any numbers.

The police recorded all statements and crime scene and are searching for the crook.
