Govt panel mulls ways to facilitate visits by foreign business people and investors

The Centre for Economic Situation Administration (CESA) is holding discussions on further opening the country to foreign business people, while the Finance Ministry is planning new measures to stimulate the domestic economy.

 

Government Spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said that the CESA would discuss on Wednesday the details of rules and regulations for more entrepreneurs and foreign investors to enter the country. Special Tourist Visa (STV) details may also be considered to allow more foreigners to enter Thailand.

 

The major issue of debate is how to facilitate travel by entrepreneurs and foreign investors, as this group would be inconvenienced by 14 days of quarantine for a short-term visit.

 

Originally, the practice was to have them test at the country of origin and to test for Covid-19 again when they reach Thailand, without mandatory quarantine.

 

A travel manager who is a qualified Thai medic or public health personnel was to oversee the trip. However, there are proposals that the business partner or business negotiating company should take responsibility.

 

Anucha said the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration has approved approximately 11,000 business people and work permit holders to enter the country, and these people has agreed for 14 days of alternative state quarantine.

 

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance will on Wednesday offer additional measures to stimulate domestic consumption, targeting middle-income earners and upper middle-income people in purchasing goods and receiving tax deductions.

 

They would grant tax deduction up to Bt50,000 to incentivise people with income and purchasing power to buy products during the fourth quarter of this year.

So it’s ok for everyone else but not for the rich entrepreneurs and foreign investors. It inconveniences everyone not just the wealthy, as does Covid affect everyone equally. It’s not selective. 
 

What’s up with everyone being tested at their country of origin and again in Thailand and forget the mandatory quarantine, if it’s considered safe to do that for business people. 

how  about 14  day quarantine  in an overpriced hotel, daily  covid  checks twice a  day, 20billion baht insurance,  a 10 million baht deposit into a  thai bank  non refundable, a coe an abc and efg only charter  flights on concorde allowed special  offers on lamborghini and ferrari purchases such as a free 1  baht plastic  bag per 10  million spent, just fill in the 86  pages of  paperwork at 3  separate  location including your  own embassy a  thai embassy the U.N and ASEAN. All nationalities  can apply with the 500k entry fee  non refundable in case of failure and all entries  must be approved by anutin and you MUST bring both parents dead or  alive..........reckon thatll  have em flocking here

after theyve  shared the  plane with the non tested returnee Thais

Here we go, mulling again. If they were milling as much as they mull, they would have all keeled over by now.

Totally agree with all of the above, the problem for the government is they want to have control over everyone but relax the rules when it suits them e.g. Chinese visitors, business people; basically they want their cake & eat it but can't fathom out how to do it. As mentioned by Kadilo above, the rich have the same chance of being infected or carrying this disease ....!!! 

Am I missing something here? Surely, by its very name "special tourist visa" it would prohibit the holder from doing business in Thailand?
